Elite like games?

Just curious if anyone knows of any good games that resemble the old Elite games.
I never played Privateer, but heard it was similar, but that's damn near impossible to find these days.

So, anything more recent?

Freelancer was a lot more like Privateer than elite - story driven, but still with freedom to go do what you want. Its worth checking out the demo at least.

Checking out a review of X2 now, seems very promising, I was always wishing someone would make a game like that but with more up to date graphics, primarily thinking of the Freespace games, and X2 seems to be just that

Funny, I've heard alot about X2, but never paid any attention since I assumed it was some boring Xmen 2 thingy.

No supposid about it.
I brought it on friday, from 2-3 reviews, i concluded that is was the modern day version of "frontier elite 2", one of my best loved games.
Played it for 2 hours on friday, with a joystick i used to complete Tie Fighter & X-Wing. It was that old. While it still seemed like a good game, i felt the controls let it down.
Today, i brought a Saitek Cyborg Evolution Joystick. And OMG....gaming heaven, an excellent joystick, makes a good space sim into an amazing one. So much better with a decent joystick.
All in all;
I highly reccommend X2 IF you have a joystick with 8 or more buttons on it.
