I'm looking for a 486 based IBM laptop and I noticed the IBM 755 series, and the 365 series. The 7 series of laptops is kinda like w/bmws, crème de la crème while the 365 series laptop was the lower end model.

I guess my reasoning for wanting a 486 based laptop is because I would like a really retro machine that I hope will be fun to type on/do homework on and I guess I feel a Pentium based laptop wouldn't feel retro enough. Maybe you guys can convince me on getting a pentium based laptop instead, I just feel like if I get an 'uber nice machine', it won't feel so retro. Another part of the problem with getting a pentium based laptop is that my first laptop was a Pentium 150MMX and because I can remember that laptop so well, it would feel too new if I got a Pentium laptop..

The drawback with a 486 laptop though is the fact it's 640X480 resolution, is it even possible to get any work done with a 640X480 screen? Maybe I should just opt for a 386 monochrome laptop... IF I only knew of a place where I could get free used laptops, if you know of any, please let me know.

I was also looking at the 755C and the 755CX, the CX has a pentium processor while the C has a pentium processor. While the pentium is faster, I'm just not sure if it would be "nostalgic enough". Any help guys?

GAH, It keeps running through my head over and over and over again, To 486 or not to 486, that is the question. I secretly want to be able to play Warcraft II/I and Starcraft but at the same time I want typing papers on it to feel quiant(sp?) and actually be able to get work done on it..
Gah, I've been thinking about this stuff for months...

Ebay Auctions I've been lookin at:
755C
^Looks like its goddamn brand new... 486

755CX
^Looks decent, though does come with case and charger.. Pentium

What to get..? I feel so distraught, I just may become emo..

Lol, J/k, emo over a fscking old laptop? LOL!

..It's not a 486 but I got a P133mhz Canon InovaBook. Fuggen thing needs a battery. It died. Came wit w95 and I upgraded it to w98se and put a 6.5 gig hd in it. It worked great till the battery died. They want nearly 100.00 bucks for another batt. I don't wana spend that much on a laptop batt.

I smash Pentium-class laptops with hammers.

Hell, I smash Pentium 2-class laptops with hammers.

And Pentium 3 450-based laptops with hammers.

I wish you'd told me about this before I destroyed all those :p

he probably forgot to powercycle them, crystals developed and then they got pwned. Surprisingly enough to keep the older batteries lasting longer, you need to power cycle them otherwise crystals form in them apparently. Maybe this is only with lead acid batteries so if some one can clarify this info, please do. <--- Reason for getting rid of the lappies?
