Ok, maybe I'm bias being a Giants fan, but I don't blame Eli one bit for not wanting to play in SD. How many great players have you seen get shafted by wasting half or even their entire career with a team that just plain sucks year after year? Noone wants to play for a losing team. SD has a history of being subpar, where as the Giants have 3 Super Bowl appearances and 2 rings.
Look at Barry Sanders. Good God this guy was a fvckin monster, but he wasted his entire career with a team that sucked a$$ year after year. Losing eventually wore him down to the point where he wanted to leave, but couldn't, he was all Detroit had. So he retired instead of enduring more losing seasons.
Unfortunatly, if Eli doesn't prove himself at NY it will definitly stick with him for the rest of his career...

The draft isn't about what the player wants. The reason they subject themselves to the draft is to be *drafted* by a team. Not to pick and choose where you want to go. There's a reason the worst teams get the first picks, they need the most help! Yes, I know that's an obvious statement, but that's what the draft is for, to help the "less than fortunate" of teams. And when a whiny, overconfident player comes in and embarasses an organization publicly, it's just selfish and unsportsmanlike. They want you there for a reason and you back down like a selfish crybaby, it's just a sh!tty attitude

That is what it is SUPPOSED to be, but teams like SD don't keep their end of the bargain. They sign sh!t players and let their good ones go to free agency. Then they have the nuts to act as if they are going to make Eli a franchise player. Whatever! They won't even spend the money for a decent O-line.

Eli Manning is the third best QB in the draft. The Giants are stupid and San Diego got the best QB in the draft.

Eli was invited to the Senior Bowl but didn't show...claiming he had nothing to prove and didn't want to risk injury. Well that's all fine and good but Phillip Rivers had nothing to prove either (his numbers throughout his career and his performances against the nations best defenses proved his case) and he played in the Senior Bowl. A couple days practice and he was working the North's O like a well oiled machine...hitting newly befriended WR's in stride like they were childhood buddies (including a pefectly thrown 60 yard strike to Devery Henderson). Best stat of the game...the north scored 4 TD's...Rivers ran a total of 4 offensive possessions. Guess who was QB'ing for the north in their 4 scoring drives: Rivers. He made every other QB look bad by comparison and Eli would've been in that lot if he showed for the South.

San Diego's offense will be much improved this year...Rivers will have his bad plays and bad games like every other rookie under the sun but I think he'll end up having a very good season overall.

SD scored in this years draft... and they set themselves up nicely for next year too.

geno- No, Flutie was good, but his numbers lately have been horrible. He needs to retire.

miniMUNCH- Although I"m a Rivers fan, he did have something to prove in the Senior Bowl. He went from a 15+ pick to a Top 5 pick, so it was a smart move on his part.

He had a 54% completed pass rate last season with 12.1 yds avg , I don't see how that's horrible.

Given his age, it's amazing what he gets done, 33 rushing attempts with an avg of 5.1 yds, he's still a versatile QB IMO

Even if Flutie does not step on teh feild, he can help train a rookie QB and make him into something very good. His exp. and knowledge will help ANY new QB, so having him on the team is a win win for everybody.

Just having the name Manning allows him far more leeway than if you or I were to be drafted. I wouldn't want to go to SD. I don't have anything against them, the area, or the people, but they seem to be struggling on all fronts.

If you geniuses are all that, why are you posting today on ATOT and not drafting players in NYC right now?
Manning was a steal for the Giants, even with the draft choices they gave up. I recall the 49er's being ripped in the papers when they traded up for a guy named Jerry Rice. Remember the career he's had?? They sent a first, second, and third round draft pick to NE to grab Rice. The laughter and finger pointing was nonstop.
"Jerry Who? From Mississippi where? BWAHAHAHAHAHA! NE ripped off SF"
Yeah, right!

Because the draft is over, genius ;)

And about the Giants getting a steal? I say SD got the steal. Rivers is an awesome QB plus they secured at least one good pick for next year.

Yeah, right!

You are comparing a wide receiver to a QB; that is fvcking retarded.

He was not a steal for the Giants, at all. We'll see what happens down the road though.

The draft is over? Then I must have tape delay on my box because I'm watching it right now.
As for Rivers being "awesome", perhaps, perhaps not. Time will tell. I was just addressing the viewpoint that the Giants were "ripped off" that I'm hearing in so many places. I can't agree.

Ah crap, you're right - I spoke way too soon... damn I thought I sounded cool too ;) And you're right, time will tell - QBs are the hardest picks IMO to predict performance of. There's been some high picks before that turned out to be stinkers, and some late picks that turned out to be two time superbowl winners by the age of 26 *wink wink nudge nudge* ;) Anyone remember Ryan Leaf? :D

Letting time tell can be more interesting than knowing up fronts, here's to another exciting season! :D

I like what Bill Simmons said on espn.com about Eli:

'By the way, could somebody break the news to Eli that there isn't a better place to live in America than San Diego? Does he know this? Who cares about wins and losses? San Diego has seals! And hot chicks! And 80-degree weather! Somebody remind Eli of this stuff when he's shoveling snow in front of his condo in Hoboken next November."

Where in NY though?

And don't you realize that with the kind of money NFL players have, prices don't matter?

They can afford SD.

NY has a lot more "hot chicks" and they aren't so into themselves

Haven't been to San Diego but MANY other places, and can vouch for the self-absorbed nature of NYC girls. I haven't seen so many materialistic, goldigging JAPs anywhere else in the world.
