Chips aren't fries.
Fries are much thinner than chips. It's almost like the difference between paper and cardboard, they are both pretty much made of the same stuff, in the same way, but the end result is slightly different.

I sometimes use this in everyday language, but only for the sake of saying something different.

Fries != Chips

It does if with deep fried fish, but ONLY then.

Faucet != Tap

Canadians use this too. I didn't realize American's didn't? Do you buy a beer faucet?

Crazy Person != Nutter

This is just a synonym, not meant to replace. Also, it's fun as hell to say. Almost as fun as bat-shit crazy. Say "Are you a fucking nutter?" out loud. Trust me you'll enjoy it.
