... Elevator etiquette?

Was chatting with a girl from my telecom class on the way out of class tonight and we got on the elevator. We ride it to the ground floor and I wait for her to step out and she says "uh... guess you're not familiar with elevator etiquette." I kinda do a "... what?" and she explains that it's "proper etiquette to be the first one out if you're the last one in." I guess I walked into the elevator after her (not sure, I don't keep track of these things) and she made it out to be some sort of faux pas that I didn't step out first. Needless to say, I said I had to run and walked the opposite way after we got out of the building.

Has anyone ever heard of this? I know the whole turn and face the door thing is something we've all been accustomed to do, but I didn't know there were some strict rules for riding elevators.

Um, a load of BS. It applies when the elevator has more people on it, but not when there are only two people (unless it is a really small elevator).

i mean if the elevator is crowded obviously if you are in the front getting out, you get out.

but this chick sounds a bit too nit-picky.

does she throw out her bowl of cheerios in the morning if one is that extra special toasty darker color?

She knows you looked at her butt as she walked in the elevator first. She wanted to return the favor and check yours out as you exited.

That only applies when there are a large number of people in the elevator, if it is not crowded then it is laddies first.

EDIT: as for looking at butts, that the whole reason that letting girls go first is a good idea, hopefully you aren't making it so obvious that you offended her though...

Or she didn't want him staring at what he can't have?

She also likes to wash her hands a lot, but ONLY if the hot water is turned on first, and only if the soap is on the left side of the sink. The soap must also be free of any red or yellow dyes. Blue is allowable.

in the off chance that that was the case (really REALLY OFF CHANCE) he totally screwed it up...

I would've said something cheezy like "etiquette ain't relative woman...it's always ladies first for me," they would've giggled, and we would have parted ways...

<---doesn't really think elevator sex will ever happen for him (even with gf)

Haha, I would've thought that she said you needed to step out first because it's not proper etiquette to let a girl out first so that you can (possibly) check out her behind.

elevator ettiquette- stare at door, don't talk unless it's just you and your friend(s) on the elevator. closest to door gets out first. Ask other people what floor they need if you are standing in front of the panel

yeh, we covered that in Psych Class. people don't like to make eye contact in elevators and they all stare at the numbers so they don't have to look at people. i don't know that that's etiquette as much as it's a behavioral matter.
