Digikey, Mouser etc as mentioned. You will have a hard time buying directly from the manufacturers unless you want to make very large orders but those places are as close as you'll get. But buying from those places you are buying from a real retailer unlike Amazon and Ebay where you don't really know what you're getting till you get it. Also watch out with Amazon when it comes to electronic parts. I've seen Atmega chips (single, not bundles) go for like $100 when they cost like $4 on Digikey. I guess sellers hope they can pull a fast one and get newbies to buy stuff thinking that's really the going price. On the other hand there are some "bundle packs" of stuff like LEDs that end up cheaper than if you bought of Digikey. But they're probably Chinese rip offs too. Depends what you're going for. If just learning electronics you don't need the super high end stuff. So really you have to shop around.
Also watch out with books, there are actually fake books, even. There's some fake copies of Art of Electronics floating around Amazon. It's actually kinda hilarious the work that went into it TBH, it's not exactly a verbatim copy, as some of the stuff is different. Someone actually took the time to type up an entire book and publish it.
I almost have to give them some credit for that. lol.
It's sad to see that Amazon is basically just Ebay now.
