Electronic Arts embraces Xbox Live

Can they front the subscription fees for us all ? Damnit just cause MS didn't create the Internet... they gotta go put something else up for profit...

As if paying $45/mo. for broadband and $50 per game weren't enough...

Hell I paid $500 to upgrade my PC so I can play UT2k4. All this is getting outta hand..

Like I said in the other thread, if you can't afford $4.16 a month you shouldn't be playing XBox anyway. $50 a year is the price of one game. It's a solid network with features you certainly don't have on Sony's online crap and the joke that is the Gamecube's internet connectivity. It's monitored and keeps everything in check.

I'd love $4.16 a month. I don't love $75 at once for the damn kit.

Quoted from US News & World Report :

"But EA's strategy isn't just about taking advantage of a growing market. It also wants to reap more revenue per gamer, so it's not just dependent on the $50 games themselves. And that's where online gaming comes in. Probst thinks that through a combination of next-gen consoles with built-in online capabilities and the greater penetration of broadband Internet access, some 15 to 20 percent of EA revenue should come from online gaming during the next console cycle."

Seems more and more companies are wanting to go pay to play these days.

It's $59.99, a lil bit more than the price of one game. Includes one full year of service and the communicator headset and MechAssault, full version. So you get Mechassault and the headset for $10. You can't complain about that. If you paid $500 to upgrade your PC, surely you can afford $60 at one time.

The code will still be there. I'm assuming that XConnect or something similar will support the EA games. Wonder if they'll have regular users in there instead of just HALO rooms.

As if you had a gun to your head to make those purchases.

Although I don't care for their Sports games, I will be intrested in a few others like Burnout 3 and possible Timesplitters 3. Not having the games on Live will not really affect me but not having them on board was really potentially hurting Xbox sales and boosting PS2 sales. Not all PS2 has that Xbox doesn't is Square, Socom 2 and Rachet and Clank and I think that is about the only reason anyone would ever buy a PS2. over an Xbox. As for me, I think Rallisport Challenge 2 is possibly the best racer online and it is a reason just to get Xbox and Live all by itself.

I was watching the confrence on Gamespot last night while in a chat room with some other guys who were watching it. When the EA guy and the MS guy were on stage, I said watch carefully for the handshake and the exchange of the $5 million dollar check.

I think this has finally sealed the fate of my PS2. I love it and all, but the XBOX has slowly become my console of choice over the past year. With EA's sports titles now on Live, I have no reason to buy most games on the PS2 anymore.

I love E3 😀.

Obviously it's not about having the money - I don't mind the $500 PC upgrade, but having to buy a subscription to play a game when I already have the game, the hardware, and a connection isn't right.

How come PC version Halo doesn't require more fees ? I'm sure XBL is great, but more fees... that's what's getting ridiculous. Imagine if Epic wanted to charge for UT2k4 online play (just because they have their own network) on top of their game... you wouldn't mind ?

I'm not saying I won't ever subscribe - I'm sure I will when H2 is out... but they're milking it all...

Who cares? It's still EA. :|

Werd! They still cant make decent multiplayer games on PC let alone on Xbox. Command and Conquer Generals, Battlefield 1942 are just some of the games whose online play sucks the big one.

XBConnect only works with games that support linking multiple XBox's together - XBC simulates a network environment to fool the XBox into thinking it's on a LAN. If EA has support for that, then it will work. The only reason XBC is mostly Halo users is because that's the only game worth playing online that doesn't have native online support built in.

And why should your backup games work online?

The difference is...when you pay for Xbox Live, you pay for the entire service for a YEAR... not just to play 1 game. Once your paid, you can play ALL the XBL games... not like if you paid to JUST play, oh, Everquest.

Why isn't XBConnect supported for the most part or created as the online gaming service in the first place ? Does MS have some sort of stronghold on online play ? That's why I think it's horse manure.

Do you even know what you're talking about in regards to online gameplay with the XBox? It seems fairly evident that you don't and you refuse to listen to others.

No, since it should be understood that XBOX live is maintained by MS.

You can't cry about what you're not being forced into is what he's missing.
