Check to make sure you don't have a smart meter. If you do, something like the Eagle Gateway make it easy and cheap. You may even get incentives from your power company. I'd check your online account with them first to see if they list any compatible meters, and any incentives.

For a non-smart system, you can check out the (cheap) meters by Aeon Labs, which connect to Z-wave systems like Vera or smarthings.

What is your primary goal from these systems? Are you trying to make sure your POCO is metering correctly? Trying to be more conscious of the kWh you use? General curiosity? Or do you really think your reactive loads warrant investing in additional metering devices to see how much you power you are wasting?

In a residential setting, capacitance is so low, that most utilities give you the difference between reactive and active power for free.

I do have a smart meter, but i can't view usage in real time.
The aeon labs sensors look ideal, but with the additional cost of the zwave system i can get almost two sets of eyedro sensors.

General curiosity and usage basically.

Did you check your electricity provider website? On mine, I can configure various devices like the Eagle Gateway that I mentioned above. These give instant data via their own device webpage or online services (via phone app or webpage) like bidgely.

Buy device, link to your smart meter, configure for online data analysis websites, done.

The only thing they offer is usage from the previous day, nothing real time.

My utility (DTE) has a device to track usage in real time. It works with their smart meters. They sent it to me for free!

Do any of these devices measure voltage levels 24/7?
I'd be interested in tracking how much fluctuation there is on my incoming power.
