electrical tape over my sd card?

Note 3 and it has the removable SD card. Is there any reason I shouldn't put electrical tape over the SD card and the metallic casing surrounding it? Will it melt when the phone gets hot with usage and make a sticky mess?

ok here's my silly reason - I'm going to tape it precisely and if I lose the phone and get it back I'll know if someone attempted to remove & read it. I offer a reward (says so on the lock screen) if found so hopefully I do get the whole thing back.

Simple way to know. And yes the data is encrypted, but I still want to know.

precisely doesn't mean square to the edges, it just means precisely the way I decide which would look like some random tape job keeping an SD card in place.

Should not be a problem. SD card creates no heat

The battery ontop will get warm, but definitely nothing remotely enough to melt tape or cause any damage. Though I suspect the repeated warming and cooling of the tape may cause it to come loose over time defeating the reason you put it there.

This seems like a weird scenario to prepare for. If you loose your phone, be damn grateful it gets returned. Makes me wonder what you are putting on the micro SD card. Haha.

Hmm.... Wouldn't plugging a usb cable in the phone do the same thing? Does Android also encrypt the SD card?

Otherwise they could just format the phone and gain access to the card. Even through a custom boot loader. I assume that is? Unless it also gets encrypted?

I mean if the tape is so you can know if someone took out the SD card and looked at it? If you even get it back if it's stolen. They don't care if you have tape over it.... If they want it they will take it....

You should just assume unless it's locked down with some type of security they will most likely take a peek if they can.

I would suggest trying something like a dab of nail polish bridging the card to the casing, that way if the card is removed the paint is broken.

That said, it seems more than a little paranoid. If you have it encrypted then I would suggest the probability that a person who finds your phone is also someone with the skill and desire to break the encryption is extraordinarily small.

Not a big tape fan here, however WD-40 will clean up the sticky mess. That or Goo Gone...

dip the phone in a bucket of paint and use a razor to scrape it off the screen. when someone finds your phone and returns it you can tell if they opened the back because the paint will have cracked or have been scraped off/re-dipped.
