Electrical Question....

First: 115V. I know someone will ask. 😉

If I have a split load lead coming from the wall, red wire and black wire, and a three prong female receptacle, can I just screw both the red and black to the hot screw (typically brass?)

I know some plugs have two brass screws, one for each color, but I was always under the impression they went to the same tabs on the outlet.

The reason why I'm concerned is because the device I'm plugging in (a stove top) grounds on neutral and it looks like inside the range the red and black leads go to different places.

😀

Stove is 240V typically. The Red and Black are each 120V to Neutral (white), and 240V across each other. Don't wire Red to Black typically.

Haha.. You're right. Duhh... I was so used to EVERYTHING ELSE in the kitchen being 115V (the hood is, the oven is much to my surprise, the dishwasher and the refrigerator,) that I just thought the stove top was too. But I found that they only used two screws to install the stove and when I pulled it out found it was actually 230V. 😀

Cool, though. The new stove top doesn't have a male receptacle, so I'll just wire-nut the connections together. I was thinking I needed an outlet because the hood had a "built in" outlet that the fan/light assembly plugged into, so when I pulled the hood, the outlet went with it. 🙁 Have to wire something up for the new hood now.

Gotta love remodeling projects! I wish the TLC channel was here. Let them do it and spend their money. Where was I when Food network was signing people up for the remodeled kitchens? 😛

I guess I AM lucky. 😀 I actually have red, black, white AND ground coming from my wall. 😀

And Ornery: Cooktops don't tend to come with plugs. Yet hoods, micro-hoods, etc. do. Go figure.
