Electrical Engineering or Computer Science??????

Help!! Im killing myself over this.. I am a transfer student from a Junior College and I already applied to a couple UCs for computer science major, but I dont think I even like programming!! I like math and science, and think I'd be better off studying ELectrical Engineering, but if I change my major I'm gonna have to stay at this piece of sh*t junior college for two more semesters!! i dont know if i can gut it out. I really really hate this place. What should I do???

BTW: i have a 3.7 gpa. is this good enough to transfer to ucla for EE?

that is what my gut instincts are telling me but damn, two more semesters at a stinking JC while all my friends are transferring..

<< Do EE, the degree name is more generic. If the computer industry suffers a downturn, you won't be stigmatized cause you can bounce to a different field, like say communications. If you really like computer related stuff, just do computer option.

This is one of the reasons why my department only offers a BSEE for undergrad. >>



but i heard there are as many disadvantages to EE as there are advantages when comparing to CS. for one, it is much harder to find a job in engineering w/o having to relocate (?)

I'm in EE and I sleep fine. Of course, I'm a sophomore and live in the library till 1am, but hey, class at 9, that's still 7 hours of sleep

I didn't know how to get to the 101, so I just took the 405 Exit Alameda

My destination? Alameda and 2nd street

Where'd I exit? Alameda and 265

Driving though 265 streets of the ghetto's is NOT fun. We had a "look straight ahead, don't pay any attention to anything" kinda deal going on. Some shady ish was going on, I don't want to stereotype so I'll stop there

thats what im thinking about doing, that and CS. i still have to stay two more semesters apply again (most UCs accept transfers only in the Fall)

well if u want out of the jc now then just go ahead and do CS. then once u get into a UC switch out of CS and into EE or whatever u choose. I think it's easy to switch out of CS because most CS programs i know are already overcrowded.

personally, i'm doing EECS and i really like it. i get the best of both worlds.

if u want ot go to ucla, there's no official eecs, but theres ee with computer engineering, so i guess its eece
but yeah, u'll be studying a lot either way...

I'd say do EE if you're planning on getting a MSEE but if you're just getting an undergrad education, I would go with CS.

It doesn't matter which degree you get. Just make sure you have enough MIX of courses in each area so that you can legitimize doing the job in either field.

I know at Cisco, people have VARIOUS degrees and pick up the skills while on the job/job training. They mainly care about if you're smart and can pick things up--which they ultimately do.

I have a friend with a degree in EE. His job is mostly CS related, with very little actual EE.
I'd say go for the EE anyway. Seems like a less saturated field. You can always get certs to back up your computer skills later in life.

go for electrical and computer engineering. they're only off by about 6 courses.

Yeah as Ragazzo said, at UCLA the difference between Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering Option and Computer Science and Engineering is like 6 classes, and less if you choose your technical electives right. So the difference here between the two is fairly small. I am currently a EECE at UCLA, a junior, anf getting plenty of sleep, at least 7.5 hours every night, so it is certainly doable.
