There are 65gal models out there but its $$$$. "
Many years ago when we replaced an old oil conversion gun system with a high-efficicency gas furnace, we also replaced the old electric water heater (50 USG) with gas water tanks we rented from the utility. The standard model, about 40 USG because the recovery rate (heating rate) with gas is faster than electric, still seemed small to me. They could supply a 50% larger model for about twice the price, so I asked about renting two standard tanks instead. Sure, they said, so that's what we did. Double the price of one tank, but double the storage capacity AND double the heating rate overall, so recovery time was still very fast. With 2 adults and 3 teens we never ran out of hot water. We ran that way for over 15 years, and finally reduced to one tank when the demand was lower and the old tanks developed leaks.
