I have one like this...
http://www.walmart.com/ip/21777982?...71581992&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=78362911592&veh=sem

The thing is dummy proof. Even has a remote that you can use to adjust temp, check internal meat temp, etc. The only thing you can possibly do to screw it up is undercook. Results are fantastic.

Heh...I was at the mechanic waiting for my car and on the TV they were demoing the newer version on the Steve Harvey show. They pulled an Oprah and gave one to the whole audience. Then the next day it was an Amazon gold box deal for $200. Now this thread. The universe was telling me to buy one and I didnt listen. 🙁

I made mine outta terra cotta pots a la Alton Brown

There's a 30-inch Electric
Smoker for my girlfriend.
We use it on Thanksgiving because none of us
have any relatives in the city. It works well.
We normally smoke some pheasant wrapped in
bacon and made some ribs last year.
Don't overcook something
and it looks amazing.
Bacon is heaven
flavored with smoke.

Five year old thread is five years old.

LOL

Alton Brown made a smoker out of a cardboard box, a hot-plate, an old cast iron pan and some old grills to hold the meat. And a corded meat thermometer to monitor temps.

For anyone not on the newer thread, the Oster Smoker Roaster for $60 is my go-to recommendation (electric + pellets). I had a big Traeger previously & replaced it with this. Works the same, if not easier! Plus it fits in my fireplace for indoor smoking haha.
