can we have the panasonic model number.

i've had the mach3 for years... bought a crap load of the blades off ebay years ago that made the avg. cost of ea. blade to be about .25 cents... still have a lot of blades left..

my people at work use brauns with the cleaning fluid... forgot the model number but they really like it for its close shave... i see their faces, i guess so... but i think their buzzers are 2-3hundred.

If i use an electric shaver, my skin gets all red for a couple of minutes, and itches for the rest of the day. I just stick with traditional, in the long run it's more expensive; but at least i don't look like a tomato

Two points to keep in mind:

All electric razors using the same model blades will cut the same. Doesn't matter if one is $150 or $50.

Performance depends on the type of facial hair you have, working worst on tough, thick beards. They work best on thin beards with no flat-lying hair.

There's a really good shaving website that explains the merits of foil type vs norelco type. I couldn't find it by googling just now. Maybe someone else will know.

Hey guys,

1) Are the blades on the electric razors meant to be replaceable like traditional razor blades? If so how often are they replaceable, and what is the general cost of replacement?

2) Ideally, I would like to spend $60-70 maximum for a good electric shaver. Any suggestions?

BTW before anyone wisecracks, I only shave above the neck. Nothing below, I assure you😉

1: On the razors with the 3 circles on the top, you can usually replace the blades. However I have a Norelco Lift & Cut razor from approximately 1992. I've only replace the blades ones a couple years ago and didn't notice much different. But they weren't all that expensive anyway.

2: There are tons in that price range. I have Norelco and would probably stick with one of their newer models of the same style. Maybe something that you can use in the shower would be my only thing I'd like to add.

I'd just get something from Target or wherever and try it out and if you don't like it, take it back and get something else.

You should shave properly before munching her. It's only fair.

I use my electric for "every day" cause it's so fast... doesnt last as long, or look/feel quite as good as the Mach...

I only use the Mach when the girlfriend and I are going out, I have an important meeting at work, or some other special occasion.

Elecrtic sucks. The only thing (which you seem to have keyed in on) is the cost savings. I don't get these people who say it is quicker. It's quicker if you don't mind looking like a slob with random patches of hair and random closeness of the shave on your face. If you want a "real" shave it takes 3-4x as long.

It is also much worse for your skin. If you have any acne problems the electric will exacerbate it.

The norelco with the goo seems slightly better but it may just be a psychological effect. Still, there's no comparison if you aren't considering cost... mach 3 is MUCH better in all regards.

Got the Philips with the Goo. Had it for about 3 years, back when the goo was white, really off putting. Like a Bukkake party in the morning. Anyway when new they are a great shave, the next best thing to razor shaving, but still not as good. You have to replace the rotors every couple of years. They are pretty costly but not when compared to some of the M3/quattro blade prices.

I do not have the Mach3.

However, even the generic blades (10/$1) using with care the first couple of times will equal my Norelco.
After that use frame, the electric will be better.

if you have a rough or tough beard then don't bother with electric....get yourself a nice membership at costco or Bjs and buy the blades in bulk..either that or they have them at ebay on discount....

if you have light facial hair then elecric might work..personally I use the mpower razor and it is the best I have used...not so much for the vibrating handle but rather the teflon coated blades.

Fixed.

I just got a Braun Synchro and it's way better than my old Norelco Reflex and my Mach 3.

Unfortunatley, you won't get a decent electric until you reach the $90 range.

if you think about it, electric will never be as close because you have to have something separating the blade from your face so you don't rip your skin to hell. On the other hand, electric is much faster. Mach 3 blades cost a lot but they are a lot cheaper than an electric razor. You also are supposed to replace the electric razors blades once a year and those aren't cheap. If you plan on keeping the electric a VERY long time, it might end up being cheaper but I think I will stick with a mach 3.

M3 Power rules. Actually, I don't know if the Power part makes one bit of difference, but it does give my face a nice massage in the morning.

I have a Norelco...spent about 70 on it, and it gets the job done quickly. Not as close as the Mach 3 (which I still use on rare occasions), but it does reasonably well and seems to be less irritating. As far as replacements, they cost about $30 for my razor, and they recommend changing them about once a year. I've used it for over a year and a half everyday (except for maybe two days), and haven't changed the blades yet, and it still is working just fine. I've really enjoyed it.

Panasonic is probably the best electric you can get. I spent $80 on mine a year ago and love it. I previously had a Norelco and didn't like it because you can't really cut a straight line with it. Get a wet/dry razor so you can just drop some soap in it and wash it out each time.

Can you guys give me the specific model number. I will take a look at it.

BTW do all wet/dry razors work like how you said, Sukhoi?

I have a Panasonic ES8023 which was $80 at Target a year and a half ago. Mine is completely waterproof which is why I can just do the soap thing to clean it. Some cheaper models are only going to have the cutting area sealed so you'd have to be more careful cleaning it with soap and water. Also with mine I let the battery run down to nothing before I recharge it, so I still have the original battery life after all this time.

I had a regular mach 3 and just bought a mach3 power the other day. After a few days without shaving the m3 power seems to work nmuch better than my old mach 3. The old one would seem to rip the hair off of my face(even with a new razor), but the power just cuts right through 🙂

The M3 power was sent down from Heaven to shave my face. I love that thing. In fact, sometimes I REALLY love it, if you know what I mean 😉

In all seriousness, there is no way ANY electric shaver will ever shave as close as a razor. And the M3 Power is the king of razors.

So how do you think I voted?

I second that. My skin gets really itchy too and as everyone else is saying, it doesn't cut as close. I would stick w/ the Mach.

She does complain a lot doesn't she? I've noticed that.

I bought a $140 norelco thinking that they were nice and time saving. It gave me razor burn every day for 5 weeks before i quit using it and went back to mach3 (the manual says you may get razor burn "for a few weeks" until you get used to it, bs).

I have the Panasonic ES8152NC, which is part of their top model line. There's also the ES8092 and ES8095. The 8092 was the first one in the line and probably the most popular since I think it's the most widely available. The 8095 is just a color scheme difference, and the 8152 is the same thing. They're all sold under the Pro Curve with Pivot Action name. Check their site here to compare, etc. Personally, I like the colors on the 8152 the best. I was just about ready to pull the trigger on the 8092 at amazon when I checked Best Buy's ad about a month ago and saw the 8152 for $100. I went and bought it that day and haven't looked back.

As for cleaning them, I don't know if all wet/dry razors are able to be cleaned the way the Panasonics can be, but I don't see why they wouldn't be able to.

If you want to know more about the Panasonics, I'd be more than happy to answer any questions (prolly via PM so I'll be sure to see it) or you can read these forums. They've got a pretty good community of razor fanatics and are more than happy to answer your questions. There's also a lot of information about current electrics in other posts.

I actually just switched to a Braun Synchro from the Mach series of blades. Yes, it is A LOT FASTER! Why? Because you don't have to put goop all over your face to shave. I get out of the shower, put clothes on, brush teeth and by that time my face is dry. Then it's a couple seconds of shaving and I'm done. It doesn't get as close as my old Mach granted, but I don't have much of a beard anyways. I can now shave everyday with my electric without my neck getting all beat up. Had to skip a day here and there when I used the blades. My Braun was $59 at WalMart. It has the swivelling head but not the automatic cleaning container. There is a cheaper one for $49 that doesn't have the swiveling head. I doubt you'd be able to tell a difference.

I'll probably never go back to blades unless I'm looking for an extremely close shave.
