Electric Razor users...please check-in

I hate shaving....so my dad gave me one of those new Norelco Electric razors that applies lotion as you shave....

now...my question is....is it going to hurt at first until the face gets use to it??? how long before the pain stops??

any useful tales and tips??

Irritation is natural when it comes to electric razors. Your face does need time to adjust to it.

And regards to disposables and better shaves - depends on your definition of better shave. With my Mach3 I have yet to get as close a shave as my electric, since the electric "lifts" the hair and cuts the root. (If you've ever worked out right after using an electric shaver, you know what I'm talking about) I tend to use my Mach3 in the summer/fall when it's hot and electric in winter/spring when it's cool.

depends on what you mean by pain? Is the skin irritated after you shave or does it hurt while shaving? My electric has a trimmer on it that I use to trim the hair as short as possible. Then I pull the skin on my face tight and shave on tight flat skin.

This is, of course, when I'm in a hurry and don't wanna prep my straight.

I use a remington triple foil for my main facial hair, mach3 for the neck cleanup.

yeah, it hurt a bit at first, but you'll get used to it. that is, given you're not trying to shave a beard or too long of stubble with it.

Remington. cheapest cordless one I could find at walmart. still great.

it takes about a week for your skin to get used to it, but for that week, your skin won't feel bad. if you need to, just use a smidge of lotion after you shave.

my neck is forever irritated by electic razors... and regular blades too i've been using it for a while too... kinda sucks, I like the quick electric shave

but my mach 3 gets a much closer shave then the electric. i swap every other day now.. seems to work out best for me.

ive only ever used electric razors. i have had 2 norlecos and now i hav a Panasonic Linear top model. this thing is awsome i can use it with cream or not and i can use it in the shower. said it would take a month for my face to get used to it. i didnt really notice

I use that Braun shaver that cleans itself, and it's amazing. I've yet to get irritation since I've started using it. Not sure if it's the same for all electric razors. I shave dry too, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Every face is different. What works for one individual may not work for another.

I've tried several electric razors, but found I get a closer shave with blades. Unfortunately, I have extremely sensitive skin and thick hair. In my pursuit of the perfect shave I've tried just about every razorblade system and every shave cream/gel/lotion product there is, including very expensive designer products. I'm currently using the Mach3 Turbo with Neutrogena Razor Defense Shave Gel and Neutrogena Razor Defense Daily Shave Lotion. The irritation around my neck is nearly non-existant now.

I only ever use my electric razor when I just need to trim a certain area a tiny bit.
I much prefer my Mach 3 Turbos and whatnot to any type of electric razor. The shave is just much better for me.

That said, you will indeed have some irritation when you first start using an electric.
It's worth getting used to however.

I've owned Brauns, a Norelco and am on my third Panasonic Wet/Dry.

I usually use a Mach 3 to get my neck where the hairs are thicking and would take longer for the Panasonic to Shave and then use the Panasonic to get it and the rest.

Brauns are ok but I much rather use an electric razor in the shower than have to dry shave and clean up the mess. That new Panasonic Wet/Dry with the tilting head looks nice. I'm very happy with the Panasonics. Nothing beats 13K RPM in the shower.

Thank you Professor Know-It-All. If you really think about it, all anyone is ever doing with ANY form of blade, be it elec. or manual, is trimming off the exposed hair. No one actually shaves off all the hair, which would entail getting down to the dermis for the root of the hair.

I don't like that norelco razor. I had it for awhile and returned it. The circular blades didn't seem to do much of anything. Now I use a braun synchro. It is very good.
