Heat rises

isnt it more efficient than it covering you? (of course have a thin blanket on top of you so keep the heat in.)

I always have a thin sheet, then my electric blanket and then a moderate weight duvet on top to hold the heat in. Never thought about putting it underneath, but I dont know how it would feel sleeping on them coils....

I only keep the electric blanket on until my bed warms up anyway, then i turn it off.. Although now that I am married I may not even need it this year.... My wifey is like a heater! Annoying in the summer but I am guessing very handy for the winter!

but if you sleep on ur back or ur side, it will only heat the skin on your back, and other side of your body might still be cold, instead of keeping the heat in if its covering you. Well the blood does transfer heat, but still :)

A duvet? I hope you're a woman. Everything on my bed is called a blanket. I'd never even heard the term duvet until I watched Fight Club.

I don't use electric blankies. I think they are bad for your skin.

If you have the proper bedding, you will be warm, beyond the initial chill, when you first hit the cold sheets. burrrrrrrr. ;)

Heat does not rise. Hot air does. And it wouldn't really matter, since the air in between youself and the blanket is being heated anyway. If you are under the blanket, heat is being lost to the air in the room. If you are on top of the blanket, heat is being lost to the bed underneath.

It's bad for the wiring to sleep on top. Just put a comforter type thing over them to trap the heat in and insulate you. Works just as well and then you're wrapped up in a nice cocoon.

Yup. same here. We call the comforter a comforter. But the fabric covering that goes on the comforter is called a duvet cover...WTF?? I guess it's easier than "comforter cover".

You put a blanket on top of the electric blanket. THen heat no longer rises and cooks your ass.

Heat doesn't rise. A hot gas/liquid floats above a colder gas/liquid because it's less dense. The only way it would matter whether you're on top of or under the heated blanket is if the heat is reaching you by convection of air.

I loved electric blankets...until one caught fire in the middle of the night...I was dreaming my feet were on fire...and woke up, to see flames at the bottom of the bed...No more electric blankets.
