ELECTRIC Bill $50.07

I have 1 roommate, and I looked at the board today and it said electric bill is $50.07

Sure we leave our computers on overnight, but I did that in my old apartment when I had 3 other roommates.

Even then 4 ppl had an electric bill running around $25.

I don't get it =(

Maybe it's my 150W halogen lamp in my room + my computer? HOW THE HELL? I used to use a 40W Fluorescent desk lamp + 75W incandescent, but I don't see how switching to 150W halogen in my new apartment makes that big of a difference.

I'm confused =(

Edit: Electric stove maybe? I've used GAS all my life, and my previous apartment had gas paid for, and so we only paid electric...

Edit 2: We don't have AC...

stop posting on atot then.....just turn off the computer and stare at a wall for a month. Wait for the initial results when the new bill arrives

I'm just wondering if this is even realistic. The past 6 months before I moved, we were paying $25 on average. Topped around $32.

But I guess that's cuz 2 guys had laptops, but 2 of us had desktops + laptops, so it should be about the same =/

Maybe they made a mistake. Pay close attention to the bill, and make sure they didn't charge you for the entire building or the floor or something. Politely call the company, ask them for help.

You'll be suprised how much people are willing to help if you give them a chance.

My wife and I pay about $100.00 per mth, (2k sq ft brick house) keep the thermostat at 73 all the time and everything else like Washing clothes, lighting, 2 computers always left on, Water Heater, etc............ It's cheap.

You sure you roomate isn't sneaking girls in for multiple showers while you're away? 😀

Be lucky you don't live in NH...

Our power company is a freakin joke...I'll get charged about $50/mo for the actual electricity I use, then another $60 in FEES. Customer fee, stranded cost recovery fee, etc..etc...

:\

maybe we have electric heated showers? bleh... why can't they use gas.

and my roommate is a she.... damn those long showers! but I shower twice a day, so I think we even out for showers

I haven't had a $50 bill in 10 years. My last bill was $310 if I remember correctly.

No, be glad you don't live in Florida. One bedroom apt (on the third floor w/ vaulted ceilings, granted) only myself and my cat living there and I averaged $120/month.

Shrugs, I pay usually 50$ to 100$ for my own electric bill per month. This is including my Window AC unit, and leaving my computer on 24/7

Up here in the NE, the dumb fees are 50% of the total bill. Very lame.

use compact flourscents..don't leave pc on at night when not using it. why waste? u sure the desklamp is 40 watt flourscent? that would be like 175 incadescent equiv😛

Do the math. For me with the 500watt power supply which has <70% efficency + 19inch CRT + 19LCD + Speakers, it comes to about 1kilowatt. If you had it running full time for a month (24X30=720) that's 720hrs x 1kW = 720kWhrs and at say 9 cents each, you get $64.80. Except my computer isn't on full time so nm. If it was though, you can see how your total bill could easily be that high.

your computer is not running at full power all the time. Even at load, I would be surprised if your 500 Watt max output power supply is drawing more than 200 Watts from the wall. Thats the number that matters.

Averaged, the total draw is probably around 110 Watts including all of the idle time.

Also $64.80 is before all of the dumb fees. That usage bill in your example would probably be closer to 120$ unfortunately :/

You're complaining about a $50 bill? If I saw a $50 electric bill I'd be ecstatic! I live in a 2 bedroom 1300 sp ft apartment and my last bill was $200! 🙁

My wife and I have a small appt, 2-4 PCs running at any given time. Electric stove and water heater, bill varies from $40-$65 per month.

I used to live in Boston and my fees were around $120-200/month, but that was with another roommate. Now in CA, my electric bill was $19.96 last month! I'm pretty happy about that.
