electric angle grinder and diamond blade – can I use that to cut concrete?

Currently my walkway is lifted by tree roots and is creating an ~1” high tripping hazard. The walkway is about 3’ wide and made of exposed aggregate concrete.

I’m thinking of purchasing these from amazon and cut off the angle and make it like a bevel

I figured its a good reason to buy an angle grinder and thought diamond blades can cut concrete.

I have a circular saw at home, maybe a carbide tip blade can make that cut as well?

Can you cut concrete with a angle-grinder and appropriate blade? You betcha.

Will you get the desired result? Maybe...maybe not.

You MIGHT be able to use a circular saw for a small cut like that, I've seen it done, but usually with a saw dedicated for that use. (keep in mind, you MAY need water to do this without completely fucking up the cutting blade)

Get a gallon jug and poke hole in the side near the bottom, fill with water and drag it in front of you to keep the blade cool and keep dust down.

This is so true it hurts.

I was just yesterday at work saying how my angle grinder ($30 Skil one from Lowes) is basically my best tool. It's amazing how much crap I find uses for with the grinding wheel.

To answer OP's question yes this should work. Keep the wheel wet with water. You can also buy diamond blades for a circular saw, though your angles may not be as good but if you already have one it's worth looking into.

Don't cheap on the blade. "Masonry blades", which you can find for a few dollars a piece are fvcking worthless for cutting concrete. Get a diamond blade.

That does seem a better idea.

Should be able to. The only issue I've seen with angle grinders is there is not enough of a latching mechanism on the blade, it's only based on friction. So if you hit a rock or something the blade will just stop turning with the shaft turning and you have to keep re tightening it. But yeah it should work.

You are doing it wrong.

Every single time I have used an angle grinder and it caught on something the torque and speed of the tool tried to rip it straight out of my hands, and always made me re-think my strategy and angle of attack on the project.

It's stupid scary, especially when you have seen pics of the damage mis-handling an angle grinder can do to human flesh.
