The attack didn't start today. I noticed the site was having problems saturday or sunday when kerry was in the lead. Now that bush is winning again the site seems fine.

In case you forgot this part of the owners story.

Staving off yesterday's attack was relatively easy. For $150, I upped my server capacity by adding an additional Pentium 4 with lots of bells and whistles.

He was probably in the process of rebuilding the machine and had the site running on some lower end machine until the new build could be brought up.

11-1-2004 Man Comes Forward As Web Site Originator

History may never know how many working hours were lost to Andrew Tanenbaum's Web site, www.electoral-vote.com.

Updated as the poll numbers from each state arrive, it has become one of the world's 1,000 most popular Web sites and gets 600,000 visitors a day, according to Tanenbaum. At 11 a.m. EST, the site had Kerry ahead of Bush, 298 electoral votes to 231.

Tanenbaum, an American living in Amsterdam, where he is a computer science professor at Vrije Universiteit, posted his biography on the site Monday. He said he lives in The Netherlands because his wife, who is Dutch, "couldn't do her kind of work in the U.S. whereas I could work anywhere."

He started the Web site as a means to register other overseas voters. Until last week, the site featured a banner ad giving voter registration information to overseas voters.

A Democrat, and a former lobbyist for the Sierra Club, Tanenbaum ran for a spot as an overseas delegate to the Democratic National Convention, but lost.

The site still sucks because it's a hodgepodge of polls.

Hmmm...who should I trust? Well-respected computer scientist Andrew Tanenbaum who actually has the emails in question or some right-wing Anandtech poster who doesn't? Dilemmas, dilemmas...

This is probably a DoS attack?

I can't get on the second domain either.

:(

I love his site. Lots of great information. :)

Dr. Wang is Da Bomb however.

Uh, Cquark, nice rhetorical question. :)

Never mind. I just got onto the second domain.

Who but Republicans would take him down? The last few days he's been predicting a Kerry win.

I'm not going to say which side is trying to silence me? lol

Republicans?

Yeah CsG, the words "all" and "entirely" seem to lead me to believe his emotions/beliefs are playing a part here.

But this is a silly debate about a webmasters agenda....

No, I don't think it's out of the question that he gets hate mail and no I don't think that it couldn't be from Republicans -but for this guy to claim "all" and "entirely" - is BS and you, he, and I know it.

CsG
Speaking of hate ...

How do you know he's lying Cad? Does it have anything to do with you not liking what he has to say? Just like the last thousand times you attacked someone? Where, exactly, did you get your omniscience? Did George bestow it upon you directly, or did you get it from a box of Cracker Jacks?

You prance around here, spewing hate at anyone who dares suggest your feckless leader might be less than perfect. Everyone to your left is a liar or an RBH or an idiot. I haven't seen you take a civil tone with an opponent in months. You used to offer reason and real content, at least every once in a while. Lately you've become worse than Rip and HS rolled together. Why don't you step away from the keyboard for a day or ten, until you can regain some sense of perspective and a little civility.

Your predictable response will be to turn around and accuse me of many of the same things I just said, with a few absurd diversions and twists of illogic thrown in for obfuscation. Save it for someone who hasn't seen your show 13,000 times already.

Yeah, who are we going to believe. Some Sierra club nutjob, and Democratic activist who makes claims like "all" and "entirely" or someone who looked at his site and learned that his methods were weak at best.

Yeah...I know who you choose

That's why you can't trust that site in my view. Wheather he slanted Right or Left still means he could be " picking and choosing " from the info he looks at reguarding his method for his site. Whith him stating ""all" and "entirely" I belive shows his personal slant.

While I prefer Sam Wang's (http://election.princeton.edu/) meta-analysis of state polls myself, I'll take a guy with the data who's shown he can be trusted in the past over a psuedonymous Anandtech poster known for his partisan retoric who hasn't seen any of the data and calls one of the most respected modern computer scientists a nutjob.

That's great - however I'll stick with realclearpolitics.com.
Yes, your guy is a political nutjob. His "method" is the most absurd way of measuring things. You do realize that he changes the states based on the latest poll - right? Meaning - whoever releases that day's poll last(or whichever he checks last) is the one he goes with? This guy has no credibility as far as this "electoral vote" thing goes and he's a leftist partisan to boot. :p

But yeah, go ahead and lap up his BS.

Well I have much respect for Tannenbaum, but that does not speak for his ability to host a site and defend the site from network attack.

The above quote sure does :p
