I just spent a good 5 minutes looking at piracy warnings (in three different languages mind you...I suppose the warnings are for all DVD regions, however the disc is only region 1), a MPAA piracy is theft commercial, and 4 movies previews before I could actually access the main play menu on the DVD.

I am a reasonable, law-abiding citizen of the United States, and would like to watch my God d4mned movie I paid for thank you very much!!!! It amazes me that the AAs just don't get why piracy is a problem. Sell me a "lite" version of the DVD without the bu11shit. I will gladly even pay extra for less bu11shit. My DVD might be ready now, as it took me a few minutes to post this.

It's much easier if you just pop DVDs in then go take a whiz or make a sammich... since most people do things like that anyhow.

By the time you get back, the DVD is at the main menu. 90% of DVDs don't have intros worth watching anyway.

:thumbsup:Good Rant. I get pissed off when I get ads that I don't care for. If I was that interested in upcoming presentations I'd search for it in the DVD. It's just so obtrusive....

Because it locks you out until all the crap plays.

I highly doubt there's a lock that would work on a DVD disk.

I mean, DVDs contain data, it's not like a mechanical device that blacks out a section of a disk until you read another section.

I'd say probably
1. your remote sucks
2. your dvd player sucks.
3. your software sucks, if you are playing it on a computer

So, can you describe a system to me that can block a drive from reading a different part of a DVD-ROM?

No, like seriously, how would someone implement a dvd-protection scheme unless the drive/player/software deliberately prevents you from fast-forwarding?

Most players will not allow you to skip the warnings to the root menu.

What do you mean? Like, it's kinda hard for a DVD to prevent a laser in the drive to point where it wants to point.

DVD "User Prohibition", UOP, "User Operation Prohibition" or "Prohibited User Operations", a "functionality" that gives the movie's publisher control over your DVD player remote control, deciding which buttons you can use and which you can't.

the easiest way to remove that is to use some software on the computer that will let you do that. or backup with UOP removed.

MOST standard dvd players won't let you skip, blame the movie industries that enforce this , not the players.

Exactly my point. There will always exist players that do not deliberitaly implement protection schemes. So, people shouldn't buy the ones that do.

unfortunately , most people don't look at the dvd player database to see what to get.

as for me, i'm sticking with apex line due to how cheap they are and certain models can play anything i throw at it.

Not technically, no. But my dad has had the same problem with some new DVD's. There are previews and junk that you can NOT skip when you put the disc in.

Apex=teh rule. Plus, they have relative immunity from MPAA since they're based in east asia.

I just use my computer to play dvds.
