Whos to say? I think the smartest thing he did during Richard Clarke's damning of Bush admin policies on terror, was to keep quiet.

That's the point - he's keeping quiet during all these supposedly "damaging" things. By all accounts he should be trouncing Bush because of all this "bad news" - atleast the media thinks he should be. They can't believe that kerry isn't trouncing Bush - maybe they are realizing that kerry isn't as "tough" as he claims he is. They want him to get tough because his silence isn't gaining him anything.

Ofcourse you and I know kerry keeping his mouth shut is the best thing to do because he always ends up saying something or doing something stupid or confilicting -but then he has the problem with not showing "fight" or "getting his message" out to the voters😛

Anyway - it seems the media is getting a bit short with kerry. They want him to win, yet they don't understand why he isn't winning or even attempting to capitalize on these "bad" things😛

After April's heavy casualties in Iraq and the emerging scandal of the treatment of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. troops, only 44 percent said they believed the war was worthwhile -- another low.

Fifty-four percent said last year's invasion of Iraq was a mistake, and only 41 percent of adults said they believed Bush was doing a good job handling the war.

Only 37 percent of those surveyed said they were satisfied with the way things are going in the United States -- a sharp drop from early January, when 55 percent said they were satisfied. Those findings had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

I can only add to that the fact that Kerry is worthless but far far better than Bush. Poor poor America, we get what we deserve.

EXACTLY, head to head matchups 6 months out is fairly meaningless at this point. Clinton was trailing badly in THIRD at this point in 1992. The most important numbers in my opinion is the aprove/disapprove numbers being at or below 50% for GWB and the right/wrong direction of this country which is nearly 2 to 1 in the wrong direction. Where is Kerry. He is busy fundraising and giving speeches to targeted crowds in battleground states. What could he say about the whole Iraq mess that hasn't already been said thousands of times already. Let his surrogates (Clark, Gephardt) take it to GWB.

Clift is right. With all the problems that Bush has had in the last couple of months, the election should been over by now if Kerry had only seized the initiative.

For instance, Kerry should have come in and attacked right behind Richard Clarke's charges against Bush. Bang, bang.

Man, others have set up Kerry to knock out Bush so often and he not responding, we have to wonder about Kerry's guts.

Was he really a Vietnam war hero, or did he get the purple hearts for skint knees?

THE woman soldier at the centre of the storm over the US Iraqi abuse pictures was desperate to "shoot some Arabs" in the aftermath of 9/11.

As an 18-year-old army reservist Lynndie England admitted she couldn't wait to get revenge.


She told friends: "We're going over there to kill ourselves some terrorists. Let's go get 'em."

At the time Lynndie's best friend was discharging herself from the army because she was pregnant with her second child.

Former reservist Kerry Shoemaker-Davis, 36, says: "Lynndie couldn't understand why I was quitting just as things were getting exciting."

When she finally received her call-up for Iraq 18 months later Lynndie was elated. Kerry says: "She was like a kid in a candy store - dying for a piece of the action."

Last week Lynndie's contribution to the "action" was clear for the whole world to see - after she was pictured abusing and humiliating naked Iraqi prisoners at the Abu Ghraib jail in Baghdad.

Despite facing charges and international revulsion, Lynndie is still thought of as a heroine in her hometown of Fort Ashby, 100 miles from Washington.

Electrician Raymond Myers summed up the feeling of many. "I don't see why it's OK for them to abuse our soldiers, but when we do a little thing like this the whole world goes mad," he said.

"Lynndie wasn't hurting anyone. It's not like she was pulling their fingernails out or anything."

Raised on a trailer park in Fort Ashby, tomboy Lynndie had already been married and divorced by the age of 21.

She saw the army as a ticket out of her smalltown existence.

But once in Iraq she is said to have fallen under the spell of one of her co-accused, brutal former US prison guard Charles Graner - whose child she is now carrying.

Lynndie's old friend Kerry just can't believe she could have changed so much. She says: "What she did was grotesque and she deserves to be punished.

"But she's not a monster."

I don't know if it would be politcally smart for Kerry to take some shots at this time. He would come off as opportunistic. Besides, it seems like bush has been given some rope and is hanging himself with it.
 
I think he is more intelligent than some give him credit for.. It is extremely hard to attack the WAR President on issues about the WAR troops without sounding like some unpatriotic bum -- thanks to Karl Rove DESTROYING the meaning of the word "Patriotism"

Against Viet Nam but for Bush's PNAC war of aggression? Looks like he was counting votes to me. I got no use for people who have no core values and are more interested in getting a vote than truth. I felt that Dean cared about the country and Kerry is without fire in the belly, jaded, and personally ambitious. He and Bush have all the passion of men running for dog catcher.
 
I find it interesting that people who would be all over Kerry if he railed on about this are complaining that he isn't. I think they are frustrated because to date, he hasn't given them any fuel for their fire. Kerry is being both smart and responsible in this. Hearings are taking place, and Kerry will be up to speed on what happened. Once more information is in, then he may use it to advantage and at the same time do so in a way that does so in a responsible manner. Remember that Kerry has a difficult task aside from the campaign. He has to do things in a way that does not inflame hostilities against foreigners in the middle east. If he stands on national TV holding pics of abused prisoners and goes on about how evil this war is (and I believe it is) then more harm than good can come of it. If my interpretation is correct then I see one thing I can give Kerry credit for.

Otherwise M, I agree with you. Kerry chased votes, not followed principle. Still, better than Bush.
