Developed internally, eh? I hope that means developed by id. I don't know what to think of Bethesda making their own engine.

Yea, I'm almost certain it's an id creation.

Hopefully so, Bethesda writes some pretty buggy games. Do not get me wrong, Morrowind was awesome, but their software is so buggy.

id (as of late) makes crappy games, but is one of the best (if not the best) game engine writers.

Hopefully, they do not combine an id game with a Bethesda engine!

I think the scope of their open worlds with so many possible actions kind of insures the game will be buggy...

I like RPG's. Most all of them are in a fantasy setting. :(

Well then you just don't like the lore of this particular series then. This is like saying you don't like the stormtroopers in Star Wars. It's part of the lore, it'd be a travesty to take them out. "But I like other sci-fi!" So what? If you don't like the lore of this game, then you don't play this game. You don't change it to make it more in line to the other things you like. Having everything be the same is boring.

Loved the Morrowind, Oblivion wasn't as good, but I still had some fun. Unless the reviews are gonna be dismal, I'll probably get around to playing it, but I'm definitely not expecting much, and I'm not excited at all...

As long as they do something like Fallout, can't go wrong. Fallout is dumbed down, consolized, but still damn good. Oblivion didn't seem as polished.

Just hope they do something creative with melee fighting. Oblivion kinda... sucked. Run up, bash bash bash, get hit and interupted, bash more. Better than Morrowind with no blocking at all. And for the love of god, better character animatiions please.

I think he means that he dislikes fantasy, but likes RPGs, so he is stuck playing a bunch of fantasy games.

Yep definitely an ID engine. I'd be quite surprised if it wasn't the same engine that's being used for Rage given the timeline.

Oblivion overpromised and underdelivered. Loads of majorly bad decisions by the dev team, and that doesn't even include the bugs they didn't acknowledge or fix. I quit buying Bethesda games because of Oblivion. Though I have gotten Fallout for a present, and was pleasantly surprised - however expectations were very low. It was still buggy as all get out for over a year, when some patch or mod finally fixed it's 'crash randomly every session' bug.

I am pleased that it is not in Cryodil again, as their bad mish mash background for it felt awful. Skyrim is a decent place to set it, and if they actually stretch a bit..... Well, I guess they might, but... I won't be at the head of the line for this one. They don't seem to learn from their mistakes, or care enough to worry about it. I won't worry much about buying it full price either....

I hope Rage does as good job for mods making as gamebro did, otherwise this will be a short game to play.

I really hope they get some inspiration from Mount and Blade and Risen, especially in terms of combat and character progression.

Who thinks they'll have the same handful of voice actors from their past 3 games (Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3) doing the majority of the NPC voices once again? Oblivion had a lot of problems for sure, but nothing got under my skin more than when I first talked to a Dark Elf and found that he had the same voice as the High Elves and the Wood Elves (a voice which only suited the Bosmer). Bring back the raspy Dunmer voice from Morrowind and have some variety in the voices for each race. I'd rather read text only (ala Morrowind) rather than listen to the same voice actor voice every single character.

Either way, I'm still really excited because it's Elder Scrolls. If their in-house engine turns out to be id's Tech 5, then that's just awesome. Just don't break the graphical immersion with shoddy voice acting this time around.

Leveling needs to be fixed, hell if I wanted to at level 1 I could walk right into an oblivion gate, a realm of utter chaos, never tamed by mortals. And I shut that shit down with leather armor and an Iron bow.

NPC need more variety and need to seem more real, like In STALKER, they have their own lives and are diverse, not just 4 voices with 20 lines of dialog.

Realistic consequences for my actions. If I go around and rob imperial city dry (which should be incredibly difficult) I better read about it In the black horse courier, and If I murder 20 people, security better be on high ass alert. Stuff to make it seem like the world is its own, and doesn't revolve around me while still showing I, or any one have an impact on it.

More varied topography, ever where is a fort, or ruin wtf? They should make it worth raiding these places, I shouldn't just be able to raid a dungeon, get the best shit, and then boom every other dungeon becomes obsolete. The dungeon's with the best loot should be incredibly difficult. Hell even a couple instanced dungeons would be pretty fucking cool, like 10-15 where you can play an online coop with others.

So much more, but I hope that Bethesda doesn't just say, hurp durp nexus community will fix all our fuck ups.

I agree a thousand fold. These were my issues with Morrowind, my issues with Oblivion and my issues again with Fallout 3. Granted FO3:NV seems to have put a significant amount of work into breaking the cycle, it is still there.

I might regret typing this up in this fashion, but here is one of the major issues as I see it. Bethesda needs to create functional trade routes through the towns. This is how information and resources should be passed. This means some trade routes would be relatively safe travel routes even for a level 1 character, while others would be incredibly dangerous. It would give you worthwhile missions, defend this caravan, reinforce this trade route, remove this threat so this route is permanently safer. It would also create cities in dire need (our trade routes are completely blocked).

Once you have something like this, you can do things like spread information realistically, for instance if I rob a town and kill 20 people, within 1 day, close towns may know and 2 days all towns would know. That's assuming I can even survive when the entire town is against me (which is how a town should become more dangerous than a cave, not because npc01 is strong, but because all the towns people combined create a mob).

Now that we have safe traderoutes, it makes sense that lower level monsters and brigands would frequent these routes where as the more ridiculous enemies are going to be off the beaten track. Which means you can mostly eliminate level scaling except to a possible gradient. If I don't clear out every rat den, you don't upgrade rat dens to cyber-rat dens. You just realize that some shitty hero will need to clear those because I'm suddenly too important and busy to clear that out. Maybe I can hire someone to do it for me. However, if your quests are interesting and require actual thought, I might still clear a rat den out when it would normally be below my difficulty level. (However, I'd personally prefer if you leveled outside certain beginner quests and the game presented them in such a way so that you didn't feel you needed to do them. That way you have additional content to do on your next play through instead of trying to 100% a single run.)

Now normally, I'd consider something like trade routes superfluous, however I think Bethesda has hammered out a lot of things and many of their problems rest on this 1 dynamic that make it a lot more important than it would normally be to me. As far as voice work goes, I'd be completely content if they got rid of voices all together. I simply don't see the long running value in it. Or go back to the days where we only voiced important characters.

Next thing I think is that you should be able to scout the landscape by talking to people. Stop having people tell me about some retarded crab or whatever and instead have them reveal parts of the landscape based on their knowledge and my conversational skills / intelligence. It's great to explore on your own, however it makes a lot of sense to ask people what threats they see on a regular basis and from where. Oh your farm was attacked? Point to it on my map. Oh xyz village is dangerous? Mark that so I know. Thanks. That way when I get to a new town, it's an information mining experience and not just a jaunt through retardville.

Oblivion with a pile of mods is now a great experience.

Hopefully Skyrim will end up the same way.

I loved cheesing Oblivion. Last time I played I made a mage, but equipped and used the items and skills of an archer. That way I could have max level bow skill and stay level 1 :awe:. I lovvvvvvved spotting enemies from a distance and arcing an arrow into their head. Very fun and satisfying. Coincidentally, sniping is my favorite way to play FO3 and New Vegas...

I hope they make the world map bigger. It took longer to walk from L to R in the world map of THE LEGEND OF ZELDA than it does in Oblivion.

If the Oblivion world was a real place, it'd be about the size of a wal mart parking lot.

Compare to Daggerfall which was HUGE! Granted the graphics were generic and not all 3d rendered, but I'd settle for more generic graphics in some areas for a bigger, less confining world.

Also, the monsters leveling with you and always staying level 1 thing is stupid too.

That being said I had a lot of fun questing in Oblivion, esp the Assassin's Guild quests. It definitely wasn't as deep of a game as Morrowind though.
