Bethesda revealed at tonight's Spike VGAs that they are currently working on the long-awaited Elder Scrolls V, and even included a release date.

The premiere trailer depicts a massive dragon awakening atop a mountain of skulls, promising a new age "born in fire." The official title is Elder Scrolls V Skyrim. Bloodmoon was fun, at least.

The most recent Elder Scrolls title was released back in early 2006, making it one of the Xbox 360's earliest major releases. A PS3 version was released the following year.

The release date should be easy to remember: November 11, 2011. Expect it to be a major holiday release next year.
There is a video included in the link.

Even after being majorly disappointed with Oblivion, I still find myself getting excited for TES:V. Hopefully Skyrim and all the nord weirdness will be more interesting.

No level scaling please and get rid of all the dumbed-downness...

Something I've always though would be a nice addition to any TES game is the incorporation of factions and relevant diplomacy. It would serve as a nice endgame where you either could or are expected to ally with one and eventually destroy the others. I don't know does this sound silly?

Blade, marksman, blunt skills will be condensed into a single "weapon" skill.

I'm calling it. Bethesda overpromises and underdelivers.

Sounds like Morrowind, which contrary to what many on here will say, was an excellent game.

Forget dumbing down, do something about the fact the leveling system is ass backwards and has been since Morrowind, possibly before.

And get more then 1 guy who can make a fun quest this time.

Wasn't perfect, but Oblivion was still a fun game. Put tons of hours into both it and Morrowind, I'm sure TES: V won't be any different. Can't wait for this.

I would expect it to be more dumbed down. It's just the way things are headed in gaming as a whole.

yes it will. hell i will even be willing to bet the pc version is nothing more then a port from a PS3/XBOX.

seems to many pc games are crap for it

I better see some crazy nord shouting, the Wolf Queen, and some real mountains and not Bethesda's usual hills with invisible walls.

I guess I don't want to think about this until I see it in motion, as in actual gameplay.

Leveling needs to be fixed, hell if I wanted to at level 1 I could walk right into an oblivion gate, a realm of utter chaos, never tamed by mortals. And I shut that shit down with leather armor and an Iron bow.

NPC need more variety and need to seem more real, like In STALKER, they have their own lives and are diverse, not just 4 voices with 20 lines of dialog.

Realistic consequences for my actions. If I go around and rob imperial city dry (which should be incredibly difficult) I better read about it In the black horse courier, and If I murder 20 people, security better be on high ass alert. Stuff to make it seem like the world is its own, and doesn't revolve around me while still showing I, or any one have an impact on it.

More varied topography, ever where is a fort, or ruin wtf? They should make it worth raiding these places, I shouldn't just be able to raid a dungeon, get the best shit, and then boom every other dungeon becomes obsolete. The dungeon's with the best loot should be incredibly difficult. Hell even a couple instanced dungeons would be pretty fucking cool, like 10-15 where you can play an online coop with others.

So much more, but I hope that Bethesda doesn't just say, hurp durp nexus community will fix all our fuck ups.

Please no more of the walking cats and other unrealistic human looking creatures.

Reptoids > Walking Cats

Hopefully, they will make it more like Morrowind than Oblivion.

Oblivion was so easy and simplified that it was not even fun, it was like it was made for a 7-year old's attention span. Not to mention, the grind was terrible with the same handful of Oblivion maps over and over with the closing of gates.

Need to find a lost NPC for a quest? No problem, he magically appears on your map. At least Morrowind made you explore and go by clues to find objectives, it was sometimes bothersome, but it felt real and one had a sense of accomplishment when completing a quest and not just a grocery list feeling like Oblivion.

The leveling system was equally as stupid. Highwayman wearing ultra-high-end armor and demanding 15 gold pieces? A level 1 can defeat a "boss," come on...

it will be more dumbed down the oblivion and on the same engine. They are releasing for the xbox for Christ sake. How much improvements can they make?

The obvlion gates were definitely the worst part of the game. The first time I closed one I thought it was awesome. Next time was less awesome, as it became quite apparent that each one had the exact same tower to climb. So damned lazy...

I have no problems with quest markers, as long as you can turn them off. Which I think you can in Oblivion? Some of us have limited time to game and don't want to trawl through cities and houses to find one NPC.

That's actually a problem i'm having at the moment with a game that uses the same engine. Dragon Knight Saga. I've completed a quest but can't remember where this "Tom" is. I'm not going to search the entire city for him so fuck it.

Yeah, but Dragons, Magic, Gods, Unicorns, and sentient trees are totally realistic. :\

I would rather not have any of that either. I can kind of put up with magic in an RPG, but unrealistic creatures, especially humanoid, annoy me.

Controversial opinion - I thought Oblivion was about as good as it could have been.

Yup, there were lots of flaws, but I tend to think most of those were the kind of flaws that are just unavoidable in that kind of game. E.g. there's no ideal solution to the leveling problem. Either things level up with you - everyone complains about the pointlessness of leveling - or you have different level enemies in different regions - which means a process of immersion-destroying trial-and-error as you keep stumbling into enemies that are too tough for you, plus great areas of the world become boring and empty of any challenge once you level up.

The best aspect of the game anyway, apart from the open, sandbox nature, was its mod-ability. Even the leveling issue was greatly improved by mods.

The main thing I'd like to see improved (but I'm not holding my breath) is to make it far more straight-forward to add large numbers of mods, without having to worry so much about conflicts and load-order etc.

Oh, and fix the stupid animation freeze bug and the various random crashes.

Also I'd like it to have as much hand-crafted story content as they can possibly cram in. Put less effort into enhancing the engine and more into adding interesting content. As its going to be on X-Box the engine presumably won't be much improved anyway.

Are you serious? That would be retarded.

Khajit and argonians are part of TES lore, and to retcon them out would be a grave offense.

Don't play a fantasy game if you want realism.

I like RPG's. Most all of them are in a fantasy setting. :(
