=> Eject CD-Rom before startup? <=

I seem to be having some troubles with my cd-rom drive. Lately, my computer (pentium 2, 450, 256 ram) will not start up untill I eject the cd-rom drive (with or without a cd). it is set to load off the hard drive (I checked it). Also, when it does start up I cannot use the drive at all! I don't think it is dead, because when I say eject disk (on the computer) it does it. I have reinstalled the drive several times, but nothing is working. I would be happy to re-install the os (98) or even a new one, but as I said the drive won't work! please help!

CDROM drives can die in a variety of ways, yours may have found a new one. Try removing it in device manager, shut down, disconnect it, reboot, See if all goes well without it. Now shut down, reconnect it, go thru the hardware detection process- if the problem comes back, you likely have a bad cdrom....
