As a change of pace from our regular PT program, one of our new NCOs asked to run a Spin course for PT instead. Since she was a certified spin instructor, I agreed.

However, since I'm in the process of ramping up my distances for all the long runs in the fall/winter/spring here, I didn't want to sacrifice on my running. Therefore, I arrived at the running track a full 45 before the spin session was slated to start and ran about 5.11mi, stretched, then bounced over to the HAWC for the spin session.

For those that don't know, spin is a stationary cycle using a weighted wheel with tension breaks designed to simulate different inclines and declines on a bicycle.

Personally, I don't enjoy cycling nearly as much as I do running. However, after a 30 min spin course, everyone else appeared to be dying with a few staggering over trash cans.

I barely felt a thing. Granted, I did sweat a lot more than I did on the run, however, the spin class was inside a room with a single door and only two fans. The only 'pain' I felt was the pain in my crotch from sitting on the bike. My calves, thighs, buttocks, etc, didn't really feel like they were exhausted.

And before anyone brings it up, I started with the tension breaks on about 3/4ths of maximum and adjusted it between that and full, ie, when she said turn the resistance down, I went only as low of 3/4ths.

At the time, I thought, maybe I'll feel this later, after my muscles cool down. Throughout the day, I watched people struggle to stand after sitting down for my than 15 minutes. Watching a group of people rising after eating lunch was amusing. However, I didn't feel a thing beyond the normal feeling after a standard workout.

Now, I just got back from class, where I spent the entire 4 hour class sitting at a computer desk, only wheeling my chair over to the routers to adjust cabling. Still don't feel a thing.

This leads me to the conclusion that I am really badass and that I need to crank up my PT sessions because people are, evidently, out of shape. After learning that my flight was the only flight in the squadron not to have a single member on mandatory PT, I thought we were doing pretty well.

Yup, people are REALLY out of shape these days. Even in the military.

Keep up the good fight. It's always good to hear that there are still people out there who could totally kick my butt.:p

I probably couldn't kick your butt, but at least I could run or bicycle away form you. :p

I'm thinking I'll double the usual 2mi run tomorrow morning to 4mi. I would have said 3mi, but there's no marker at the 1.5mi mark on the road, there is at 2mi. There is always the track, but its a 1/4mi track and doing 4mi on that can get dull for the casual/forced runners. :evil:
