EIST in INTEL CPUs.

Hello

I'm wondering to get Pentium D930 after holiday. As You now it is clocked 3GHz for each core. It has also EIST - function that underclocks it to save enegry. But as far as i'm concerned EIST makes CPU running 2.8GHz instead of 3GHz... little strange AMD CPUs go down to 1GHz even from 2.6.

Am i right with that? Or maybe EIST gives something more?

Anyone has any experience with it?

Thanks in advance.

There hasn't been much said about EIST since the launch of the 6xx-series P4s some time ago. All that I can contribute to your inquiry is that, if you're concerned about power consumption and heat output, you should wait until Conroe launches before you go shopping for processors.
