anyone else get a Mail to be part at Einstein@home

i just get one

Thank you for your interest in Einstein@home!

Einstein@home is a program that uses your computer's idle time to
search for spinning compact stars (such as pulsars) using data
from the LIGO and GEO gravitational wave detectors. While we are
still testing, we are close to deploying a production version of
Einstein@home, as part of the American Physical Society's World
Year of Physics 2005 activities....

more 2.000 Users are on to get the Fun...

The email system for E@H is not actually slow I think there is just a misunderstanding of how accounts get created. When you sign up on the APS website
http://www.physics2005.org/eve...steinathome/index.html
you get put on a waiting list for an account. As soon as Bruce feels that our system is ready to handle more users (and computers) we add the next 2000 or so users on the waiting list. We are continuously working to improve our systems and eventually we expect that everyone who wants to contribute to E@H will be able to

hope you are in this...

BOINC is the sound cartoon kangaroos make as they hop to and fro.
Maybe they've seen your sig-line, and therefore have put your name at the bottom of the list? :p

Hmm, Einstein@home.... haven't even remembered to put my name on the list

Oh well, this problem was fixed in less than 5 minutes, and is already up and crunching.

I stand by my sig line - if THAT is what keeps me from participating in the experiment so much the better!

I am planning to to send out another ten thousand account keys for Einstein@Home in the next day or so. I am not yet sure whether or not we should ask new users to use 4.16 or 4.17. So this thread is very useful to me: please post a short note saying if 4.17 did work for you or if it did not.

The user "GRRO" did get an email with the necessary information to join the E@H project. GRRO is the local user group that I'm a core member of that will be expanding its current list of projects significantly this coming spring and summer, with E@H being just a minor part of the activities.

sent in for me, was wondering if I would have to wait till all 7 were done

edit:

Measured floating point speed 1576.68 million ops/sec
Measured integer speed 3835.96 million ops/sec

guess that is good for an xp2000?

Soon as I have more numbers, I'll post them. Of course, these are just CPU numbers.. other factors like available ram & disk space will play a part in how fast the client is too. ;)

I just sent out approximately 6500 account keys. This should include everyone who registered at the APS World Year of Physics Web site prior to January 20, 2005, AND who indicated willingness to be a tester.

Note: people who registered at the APS web site multiple times using the same email address (and who did not change the email address in the E@H database) should not get multiple account keys. People who registered at the APS web site with multiple different email addresses, or who registered multiple times with the APS using a different email address than is currentlyl in the E@H database, may get multiple account keys. Please feel free to pass on any unused account keys to friends, colleauges, or family.

i think all who have registerd are in the Fun :)
