Since I won't be using the stock cooling for the Athlon 64 3500+ Winchester, I figured I could get it OEM and save a few extra bucks. But after going to monarchcomputer.com's site and looking at theirs for 272 bucks, I was like ehh. I mean look at their picture! The CPU looks like crap! Should I still order from these guys? I know monarchcomputer.com is a big supplier of computer related things, and they usually have good prices.

The CPU will probably turn out new anyway, but I'm still kinda skeptical...

Also they say:

NOTE: In order for Motherboard to POST with this CPU, the lastest BIOS NEEDS to be installed.

do they have the best deal or something? I can't imagine that they'd send you a used chip.

Yes they do. But the weird thing is their 90nm CPUs are the same price as their .13 micron ones, I also don't want them sending me a .13 chip either.

I highly doubt they'd send me a used chip too, but just firming it up.

Monarch's support is top tier. I ordered my new OEM A64 Winchester 3200+ from them and it's perfectly new. They installed the chip on my 939 ASUS board, applied paste, made sure it posted and updated the bios all for free (plus they added a free Far Cry DVD).

Go to their forums and ask them anything. You'll feel confident in buying from them afterwards I'm sure. If ANYTHING is wrong, they'll fix it without a problem, and support you after you get your purchase. Their Reseller ratings are extremely high, and because they aren't in Cali, I'm not charged tax =D . I have the highest praise for Monarch.com

Monarch is a good company. I even remember them coming on these forums when everyone was waiting on the Neo 2's and making sure everyone was kept up to date on when they would get them in.

Thanks guys! I'll save 20 bucks by ordering from them!

But what does "NOTE: In order for Motherboard to POST with this CPU, the lastest BIOS NEEDS to be installed." mean?

from what i've seen on teh forum you need the latest bios in order for the board to recognize the 90 chip.... i could be wrong, but if I'm right I think you will need a 130 chip so you can post and then flash the BIOS....

I just recieved my first order ever from Monarch and I'm very impressed. I ordered 2x242 OEMs for $203 each shipped, a very good price BTW. They got here on the same truck as the board I ordered for them@ZZF even though ZZF shipped 2day and Monarch shipped ground because I live in Fl. They are in the plastic tray and were encloseed in several layers of bubble wrap, then put in a box and stuffed in another with packing peanuts=nuke-proof

Supposedly, the Soltek board will boot out of the box.

Yeah, I have also heard the MSI will too.

There is a website, and maybe somebody out there knows what it is, can ship a motherboard with the latest bios, for a nominal fee. I can't remember the name, but I know they are listed on Pricewatch.
