LOTS of time. Even when you get a match, you're going to probably spend at least a week exchanging questions before you get to talk with them on the phone, let alone meeting them in person. That's quite a bit of effort, only to find out that they're NOTHING like how they described themselves once you start hanging out together.

I admit I tried it for a month. It didn't work out. It matched me with women just as crazy and unstable as I am, which would be great if I wanted to be divorced or stabbed in three years.

i don't see what the big deal is. lots of people don't have time or have other things that prevent them from going out to bars, clubs, etc. and such to meet people. this lets them do it from the convenience of home.

0 dates out of both attempts. first one was for 2 months then a year later i tried for 3 months.

A friend of mine did their personaitly profile thing. Turns out he's not compatible with the system(I've heard something that 1 in 5 will not work with the matchmaking system)



 
Met my wife through one of the earlier one's (now sucked up in either Match or eHarmony, me thinks). BUT, we did not met through the service directly. Do the social events. Atlanta Singles Net users started making a Friday night dance at one of the local clubs. It was not a typical bar scene. My wife liked it because "you don't meet the slimy guys that hang out in the bars and worry about them stalking you back to your car." Since you have the 'network' to work with, there is no pressure to get a phone number. You can go home and check out more about the person and use the service to then ask for a 'date'. And since you are with the service, you have a common reference point on which to 'mingle'.

That is my theory on how to make it work for you.
 
One of my friends seems to have tried a lot of these services. She said Eharmony didn't work well with her because they'd match her instead of letter her and others seek each other out. She ended up being matched to a bunch of more serious, older guys and didn't like it.

She seemed to have had better luck coming up with dates and a few relationships using Match.

Now it seems like she's getting a lot of "dates" (I'm not sure if any are all that serious, but I'm pretty sure she's looking) just by having a MySpace page. I'm not sure how that works out because I've not spent any time using or browsing MySpace.


I imagine it helps a lot that she's a super-hot Asian chick.

I think they match personality "types" up more so than likes/dislikes. Though I don't like any of the matches I have gotten on there. The girls don't want to post their pics, when they do they are uber fatties. Thats my main physical reasons for not wanting to date a certain person....I don't want a girl bigger than me.
