Yes, but you can get an entry level 1700+ mobo/cpu combo for like $100. Just get one that has PC133 slots on it.

Or save up $150 and get DDR.

Because I'm still using Socket-7 and it's supposed to be the fastest S7 cpu made. :D

NOES! A lifer without atleast a giger? You should be ashamed. DONT BUY IT DUDE! seriously, its neat and all that but you could buy this at NEWEGG for $66 and it comes with a cpu fan and a 3 year warranty. It is almost 4 times as powerfull. after that all you need is a board and ram. You could easily get that cheap. Get a budget board like the k7s5a or something. Or maybe this, it has intergrated geforce2 which is probably an upgrade. And here is a stick o ram that would work very well with that setup. Hope that helps :D

He will soon be the proud new owner of a Iwill KK266-R, Duron 850mhz @ 1Ghz (266mhz FSB), and 384mb of CL2 PC133. Not the fastest, but better than what he has now. :)

BTW, I have the legendary Asus P5AB sitting in my closet with a k6-2 333. I am planning on making it a networked divx rig for the livingroom. Aught to be fun!

Pretty much. If he has the means, he can pay me $25 whenever he can, otherwise, yes...it's free. :)

I'm thinking about modding my Tyan S2460 to get it to work (the power connecter burned), but I'm not willing to rish the money for a new proc on it.

Oh, well.

The P5AB was a very good socket 7 that was very legendary. It was like the K7S5A of the socket 7 days. Ah those where the good ol days. When a computer was judged by its software, not the hardware.

Ah, I remember the Super 7 days. I had an Abit AX5 (Socket 7) then moved to an Abit BX6 2.0 (440BX). That was a badass board.

I miss it. :(

Now I have my AX5 with K6-200, BP6 with dual Celeron 333s, my defunct Tyan Tiger MP, and my Gigabyte GA-7DPDWX-P (or whatever the hell it's called).

I miss 1997-2001. Those were good computer times.

:sniff:

That's a damn good deal on the parts for $25. While they may be "obselete" by todays standards, 850mhz is still very usable for the majority of common uses. (my second system is only a tbird 800)

I know someone that's using some of my old parts in a system still that's worse than what Eli has. pcchips m571, k6-2/400 (66x6), onboard sis 4mb video, onboard sound, 128mb pc100. Something like that is almost impossible to upgrade without buying a new case.

Yeah. Actually, the Duron is unlocked, and runs 1Ghz, 133mhz FSB no problemo. It should be quite an improvement over the K6...:p

That much of an increase in speed is really amazing. Its like a new level more like era of computing. I started out with a 486 33 with nothing on it. No sound no cdrom im talking nothing. I got it when I was 9 and from there I upgraded that like a mofo. 64 whopping megs of ram (much better then the 16 it came with). put a 2 gig hard drive in it. BLAZING fast 24x cdrom. one of those brand new 33.6 modems. And I slapped a 100mhz processor in it. oh and I put a 2 gig hard drive in it. And I had almost no help. Everything I did I had to teach myself. After that I got an athlon 1.4ghz and the day that thing fired up I almost shat myself on the speed. No one I knew had something as fast as I did at the time.

Eli you will definately asl yourself why didnt you do it sooner.
