Egyptian Court Bans Virginity Tests!

I can't fathom how infuriating it would be to a woman who was raped, yet punished for not being a virgin. 🙄

Good for Egypt.

Another wonderful example of how Islam and Arab culture view women.

It doesn't have anything to do with "Islam and Arab culture". News about these "tests" caused an outrage here in Egypt to the extent that the military council denied it at first.

The main reason for these "tests" by the military is to humiliate female activists. The military council in Egypt is against the revolution and is doing everything it can to contain it.

At first the military denied administering virginity tests. Then last week, the military prosecutor said one army doctor is on trial for abuse. On Tuesday, after the court decision, military prosecutor Adel el-Morsi said the tests are not condoned by the military, calling the abuse "an individual behavior" that is before courts.

Maybe they just read Game of Thrones and got pissed about it....... 😉

Seriously? I think this was barbaric and humiliating, and I think it is still practiced in other nations. It holds no actual weight for anything besides treating women as property and should be publicly and politically decried at almost any opportunity.

so wait - you mean Islam and Arab culture treat women fairly and equally?

On no - wait - clearly you don't mean that, because that would be a crock of shit

where else in the world does a culture do this? Islam and the arab culture have a long history of abusing women.

Nah they are doing it to protect women, cause if they are not clothed from head to toe some infidel might rape them after seeing them flash their hot ankles off. So really Arab culture is pro-female unlike the west, which lets women do whatever they want, and that clearly is the real evil in the world.

you mean kinda like when they were burning witches etc...

Like they still do today.

http://indianrealist.wordpress.com/2011/05/23/christians-burning-witches/

but I digress, since you as far as I know do not burn people for witchcraft one cannot or should not judge you for those that do even if it was an ancestor in your past.

A common fallacy especially on these forums is pointing out injustices in the past as some sort of false moral equivalence to silence those when they point to injustices in the present.

The past is for learning and reflection not for holding back the present, since neither you nor I can go back in the past and change things that we were not partakers of neither should we be judged by them,

rather we should be judged on what we do in our lives and pointing out barbaric actions today for what they are should not be stifled by those that like to point to the barbarians who all of us had as ancestors.

And how large do you think the gap is between that and "abstinence-only" sex education?

Quite a bit, actually. One culture has given the world the burqa, the hijab, women can't drive, can't vote, can't be educated, can't travel alone, rape is just adultery, and the list goes on. Abstinence-only education is retarded, but it's nowhere near as bad.

As much as I despise the abstinence only idiots a woman in the most conservative, rednecky parts of the US is still much better off than a woman anywhere in the middle east.
