Police Block Polling Stations in Egypt
Riot police cordoned off polling stations in this Nile Delta village Thursday to prevent people from voting as Egypt entered the final round of legislative elections that have been marred by violence and allegations of fraud.
The ability to vote varied from town to town among the nine provinces where polling took place, but th'e use of police to stop people from voting in this northern village or to deter them from voting in some southern villages appeared to show that the government had gone back on its promise of free and fair elections.
The next time our President tells us how going into Iraq was to bring democracy to the middle east perhaps he should be asked why the U.S. is the major supporter of dictatorships in the reqion?
Lets face it. If democracy ruled in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, three countries whose dictators rule with US help, these countries would be anti-American.
Asking US troops to fight for democracy in Iraq while the US is helping to prevent democracy in Egypt is just plain wacky.
