I say restore power everywhere else first and then return after say another week to restore their power. If they throw more items make them wait another week. Eventually they will get the idea that throwing things at the workers cost them in the long run.

I agree; the workers are trying to restore the power - it is not their fault that it is out.

someone has to always be the next in line.

These people are idiots on several levels.

Do they think that the workers decide where to go?

Do they not realize that the company has done something like triage to determine where the most power can be restored in the least amount of time?

Can they say for certain that it is not necessary to to fix something elsewhere first that is vital to restoring their area?

Do they realize that they are creating further delays?

Will they ever realize what morons they are?

Sadly, incidents like this are all to human reactions in what amounts to misdirected anger.

Simply because the valid anger is quite real, but the real rascals are the executives in charge of the utility companies, who should have deployed their crews in a more fair way.

And because the justly angry public can't punish the real rascals, they instead misdirect their anger at the innocent. General answer, the mayor of Bridgeport should have been arresting and confronting utility executives instead from the word go. And then followed up to make sure the proper utilities executives rascals are properly punished and totally publicly disgraced.

I too have been on the short end of the stick in the past two big Indiana ice storms, but when the same wealth based bias occurred to me and my mother, I went straight to my mayor and other public officials, got straight in their face and called them wimps and rat finks in no uncertain terms. And I kept asking the same questions even after power was restored everywhere.

I can understand that kind of thinking does little at the time, but I still hope that properly directed anger will result in better results next time. Its the only thing utility executives and public officials understand.

A more fair way haha.. what because the ghetto didn't get the power turned on first. The way the animals are acting maybe gives you a clue to why they weren't first. Although it most like had nothing to do with it.. im sure it had to do with where substations were at and what was more damaged//easier to fix.

In a lot of areas of the country, people come out of their houses and thank the linesmen who are restoring power. Bridgeport must be filled with some pretty low-life scum.

I am sorry but thats just not the way it happened We all watched it , The commander and Chief stepped in and took control over the operation and helped make this decisions . Way to pass on the buck . But when obama took over thats wear the buck stopped. The news was full of this stuff and how it saved obama the election . We all watched the reports

It's the same kind of moronic rationale from those who shoot at firemen trying to put out fires or paramedics trying to save lives during times of a citywide crisis. Some of the assholes who do this hope that the situation stays chaotic so that they can continue their criminal activities while police are busy elsewhere.

Fortunately disasters are relatively rare, but I would like to see states pass a law that doubles or triples penalties for crimes committed against rescue workers, linesmen, .etc while restoring things back to normal. If fines can double in a highway work zone....

It takes a special kind of asshole to do something like this, worthy extra penalties.

You all need to follow our lead here in MA. Two years of wide spread long lasting power outages got the States Attorney Generals attention and guess what all the power companies laid off and reduced the budget to trim tree's and do basic preventative maintenance. She issued a few warning statements and this previous summer I saw plenty of utility workers trimming trees & replacing poles. I kept power throughout the entire storm and overall there were few outages from Sandy than Irene(?). Power companies just need to be reminded that they've been granted a local monopoly and spending some money is what's expected.

CT has already learned that lesson. Governor Malloy has been all over them since Irene and Alfred. CL&P recruited 1000 extra linemen from as far away as the west coast before the storm even hit. UI which is the smaller utility company here and the one responsible for Bridgeport made similar preparations.

It boils down to the Mayor making allegations that may not even be true which in turn influenced a lot of ignorant people (Gosh that is a similar theme I wonder what other demographic is influenced in such a way. :hmm:). Now the mayor is paying the price. He has to provide police protection for all crews doing work in Bridgeport from here on out or they will not even enter the city. Stupid is as stupid does.

How do you know how they were directed? Because a class-war-faring mayor told you? Or do you work in the utilities logistics division?
