EggNog still totally rocks

Slurpy eggy cinnamonny nutmegy awesomeness! Mmmm, eggnog. Don't ruin it with booze. Booze wrecks eggnog. Virgin eggnog => a preview of heaven. Spiked eggnog => puking in reverse.

I set out to write a parody thread but when I saw the wall of text I was thinking about parodying, I said, "screw it." Eggnog deserves better.

Spiced rum or bust.

I rarely drink it though. It's too heavy, especially when I'm stuffing my cakehole with all the food that comes at this time of year. Usually just stick with a glass of whiskey.

I still search every year for the perfect eggnog...probably going to have to end up making it myself. I can't remember what my gold standard is now, Garelik Farms maybe? Or Hood. One of them. All of the rest are either watered-down eggnog wannabe's or oddly enough taste like bubblegum.

Around my hometown, it's Stewart's. There will be plenty in the fridge when I head upstate on Thurs. 😀

EggNogg is just a socially acceptable way to begin drinking hard liquor at 10am. When dealing with family around the holidays that's an important function, but if it was good on its own we'd drink it year 'round.

This is the best eggnog I've had.

Granted I've only had like 3, but this is by far and away the best. It's almost milkshake like in it's texture since it's so sweet.

I'm not a huge fan of mixing liquor with it in general though, I prefer to just drink a cup for desert or so. I've mixed it with Captain Morgan and it was good, but Eggnog is too sweet to keep making mixed drinks with.

Ha, that's why my kid doesn't like it, says it tastes like bubblegum.
But yeah, making it yourself is the way to go.

I think I've seen that brand here in NE, I'll give it a shot thanks! I do like thicker eggnog. Not a drinker so the straight-up sugar versions are more up my alley haha.

I don't care about socially acceptable. I'll pour a glass of whisky or three before 10. I prefer the egg nog sans alcohol. If I drank it year round, it would cease to be special, and just another mega calorie drink, which I really don't need. I'm already ~20# too heavy.

America is full of bizarre eating habits. We only drink eggnog at Christmas. We only eat turkey and pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving. Cranberries out of a can are more popular than fresh. I love eggnog with brandy and would drink it for brunch all year around. American eating habits need to DIAF!

Love eggnog, with or without alcohol. When it is a fun family get together that goes late, I'll mix it with whiskey or rum.

I prefer it w/ a little bourbon or rum...cuts the thickness a bit. Usually 1 or 2 glasses a year is enough for me.

I can have bacon year round and its always special. That is just a ridiculous line of thinking, people do not consign foods they really enjoy to a single time of year to keep them special. If you like something a lot you have it year round and if it's mega-calorie or bad for you then you eat it in moderation year round. It's like eating turkey at Thanksgiving, it's an integral part of the holiday and enjoyable in that context, but on its own it's not special.

One of those things that I can only enjoy in (severe) moderation. I can drink about a pint of eggnog a year and enjoy it. No more.
