I was thinking of this today on my way home from work. What major embarrassing moments have happened in history. I will start with two:

1) The Titanic -- Unsinkable, well, not really.

2) Maiden flight of the Airbus A-320, Air France -- Video speaks for itself. It was a result of the pilot not fully understanding the "fully automated" computer system. Great Mayday episode too.

What else is out there???

Like 150 people died....and all of the passengers had won tickets to fly on this flight....not a good win at all.

OMG. That sucks.

But it reminds me of another embarrassing moment in history.

The Challenger (the one with the teacher that won the trip).


I realize some of these are tragic..but they are embarrassing.
 
That time Bill Gates unveiled that new version of windows only for it to hit a blue screen of death in the big preview.
 
The entire war in Iraq was almost worth it, just because we got to hear this guy:

Air France Flight 296 was a chartered flight of a new fly-by-wire Airbus A320-111 operated by Air France. On June 26, 1988, it was flying over Mulhouse-Habsheim Airport (ICAO code LFGB) as part of an air show. The low-speed fly-by was supposed to take place with landing gear down at an altitude of 100 feet (30 m). Instead, the plane slowly descended to 30 feet and crashed into the tops of trees beyond the runway. Three passengers died. This was the first crash of an Airbus A320. The cause of the accident is disputed, as many irregularities were later revealed by the accident investigation.

However, while the pilots were trained in metric, this particular plane was in Imperial units.
