here are some previous egg drop entries.

weight must be under 30 grams, the record is 5 grams.
must be a rigid structure, parachutes are not allowed, but in the pics you can see that if it is rigid, it is legal.
highest height it must survive is 30 ft.

i was thinking of making a ridgid parachute, but to try and make it light, i am not sure what i should use. balsa wood seems to be the lightest/strongest material i could easily get a hold of, but is their anything lighter?

also, if you have any other ideas, let me know.

You know those little leaf things that some people call "helicopters", like, you drop one and it spins around and around slowly until it touches down... Wonder if you could pull that off with the egg being the seed, using balsa wood and maybe a tight piece of plastic, tissue paper if you can keep it from ripping, or wax paper...

wow those are much more leniant than the rules I was given for my egg drop. basically all you could use is paper and tape , smaller than 6x6x6in, and weight MUST BE exactly (or as close as possible to) 300g. you could use other materials only to add weight (nothing that could cushion the egg). 4 story fall, and it must hit a target on the groung dead on.

I made a thing that survived and hit the target perfectly. it was a sort of a "rocket" (tube with cone at end and 4 fins at other end). I filled the bottom portion with pieces of paper with airspace in between taped to the inside of the tube and then stuck the egg so it hangs from the top of the vehicle with tape. I also filled the cone with coins in wax (to give it extra weight so it meets the guidelines and falls egg side up). here's how/why it worked so well: the fins made it fall straight to the target, the nose cruched perfectly on impact, and the resulting momentum pulled the egg off the tape, and it was accelerated to 0 very gradually by the pieces of paper.

mine has to survive up to 6 drops, and the grading is based upon how light yours is in comparison to others. i wouldnt call mine lenient, i would call it tougher, 6 drops, lighter than 30 g, grade based off of others entries, hmm.

ness: check it. your idea is possible.
