Egg Drop Project Ideas?

We get one egg, 5 sheets of paper, and a yard of masking tape

So far my idea is to make 4 triangles to connect as a pyramid. That leaves a good portion of each paper left and another whole sheet. I would crumble those and use as padding inside pyramid and then put egg in the middle and seal it up.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's enough padding. I'll have to make my pyramid much smaller.

A friend sent me some pictures of what his dad did using origami that all connect together. I'm sure that would work, but I want some more ideas, heh

Energy mechs might be better. eggdrops are just getting bloated...

Oh, that kind of eggdrop. Are you still in HS?

I think I folded the paper like a little paper fan (without bunching the one side) and layered them. Or something. Worked fine.

Tape and paper

Tape isn't very good for the weight of an egg when being dropped so much

It wouldn't be easy to make a stable and secure square box out of 5 sheets of paper.

what height you guys dropping it from? just curious.

first time in class room from the 9 foot ceiling or whatever it is

second time from a catwalk, probably 1.5 stories up high

We got straws, string, and a cup for ours. Parachutes are for n00bs though, so I don't recommend it. Especially for heights 15+ feet, because they tip easily if not engineered right.

Yeah, I'm avoiding parachutes for now

Something with triangles... definately triangles, those are strong shapes..... but seriously, origami is a solid way to strengthen the paper, if not develop a multi-tiered parachute.

use the tape and paper to make a rope and lower the egg safely to the ground

lol, it isn't enough for 1.5 stories 😛

are you sure? 3/8 inch stips with two 3/4 strips of tape connect them and maybe save 6 inches of tape to secure the egg

smuggle in a model rocket engine and point that sucker at the ground. youll lose, but youll lose WITH STYLE!
