Well, it was in stock and it used to cost less than a GT last week . . .

Was it cheaper than the $420 that newegg had it for, or is that the cheaper than GT price you're referring too?

So what card exactly is this? The description says vanilla 6800, then says its 256MB GDDR3 how is this worth more than a GT?

It's a ten layer PCB with asus tweaking the circuitry in places , thats all I could gather, It is a twelve pipe vanilla with 256 memory.

Wups you just wasted alot of money. Those things still even with more memory and DDR3 do not perform as well as a GT. They like everyone else said still only has 12 pipes... Though it might be OK once the Newest Rivara Tuner comes out with the 6800vanilla 16pipe hack.

Yeah, this is basically a 6800 Pro, similar to an X800 Pro.

This is a waste of money, unless you do the softmod to open up the other 4 pipes. There's a thread about this, so its something to consider.

It is a lot of money when he could have just purchased a GT for less, but, It would be very interesting to see how this card performs against a X800pro now that it has 256GDDR3 mem.

Sad that one has to void the warrantee by modding the card just to make it worth the money paid for it.... IMO, there is absolutely nothing to consider about this card. I paid less for a 6800 GT.

Bateluer: You should consider posting before buying the card to see if it's a good purchase... This card will certainly be a nice card, but $419 is too much for an overclocked 6800NU IMO. $489 is just wrong, period.

Or maybe not, I've found too much conflicting info..

It's not, the link you have is to the 'Ultra Deluxe' and this is the 'Gamer Edition'...either way it's a Vanilla with some decent memory, still not that great for the price. A decent 6800nu is 285-300 on Newegg right now, and I doubt that memory is giving you that much more perf as to cost 140 dollars more...

I would normally agree, but the main killer of the 6800nu is the 700MHz DDR1 memory. This thing should fly along very nicely. Like I said, a GT would have been better with 16 pipes, but, live and learn.

Yeah, I wondered the same thing. I'd be more than willing to pick up a 6800NU with 256MB IF it was roughly $340 or less, but at the $400+ mark, there's no reason not to get a GT.

ZobarStyl & nitromullet: Yeah I kinda figured that out, that's why I edited my post.. but I guess you guys didn't see that before replying.

This seems to be the best deal out there right now:

ETA 8/25/2004

If its not in-stock, it really can't be considered any more than potentially a good deal. To be fair, the OP will have had his card for weeks playing while you wait to get disappointed by another pre-order that gets pushed back.

actually, I already have a BFG 6800 GT OC.

I didn't say it was the best deal ever - I said it was the best deal out there right now.
