I am what some might call an FPS wh*** I turn fraps on the minute my computer starts and I spend 80% of my time watching the number at the top right of the screen. I have trouble enjoying my games because I care way too much about frames per second, I can literally feel any dip and fluctuations. I would never be able to play at 30fps, believe me Black Flag tried to lock me into 30fps with vsync on, it just doesn't work. If someone says they cant tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps then they got some serious issues they need to deal with.

Some? You mean people who aren't blind?

(Don't forget turn off motion blur for both balls).

Anyone who can't see a different between 30 FPS and 60 FPS must have a serious vision impairment.

I go by this instead.

Only difference with any of those game comparisons is it seems like 30fps is moving faster pace but when I actually into a game, I really don't notice anything wrong at all between 30-60fps.
Even with graphics, there are a ton of subtitles between high end PC vs PS4 comparisons and I never notice them during actual gameplay.

Perhaps the issue is that it just bothers you more than it does others. The one you linked, even the 60fps one doesn't look very good but then again it's not a game either.

There's the problem right there for many PC gamers I think. If they never tried to observe comparisons all the time then they probably wouldn't be so sensitive to it. Even when I see a game choke up or stutter for whatever reason every now and then, I don't let it bother me, I stay focused on the game.

I honestly don't mind 30 FPS for non-FPS games if it's nice and smooth, with no dips below. It is more "cinematic" when considering movie framerates, indeed, but goddammit I can stand it for twitch FPS and third person shooters.

The is a big difference between smoothness the bigger the viewing area you see. Seeing a small little window at 30 FPS is not remotely as choppy as seeing a fullscreen at 30 FPS. The bigger your monitor, the worse 30 FPS feels, because the further something moves, the more updates you need to keep it smooth. Not to mention the mouse movements and latency play a big part in how it feels.

there is a difference but you make it sound like the sky is falling.

clearly the sky is not falling.

No, he did no such thing. He just said that the difference was very obvious. And I fully agree that it is. In any case, 'the sky is falling' is an inappropriate expression because no-one has alluded to an impending crisis.

30fps is a non starter for PC gaming. There is no case for it. Ubisoft is run by folks who don't care much for gamers, so their line of thought is pretty transparent if you keep that in mind.

Ubisoft should be hung by the toes until they admit they are decieving gamers in their attempts to make a case for 30fps.

PC gaming bliss and the major head up vs consoles starts at 60fps mins. If you can get above that you are going to have opportunity for even more immersion.

We game for immersion (however we attain it through our respective game choices and hardware) I don't believe for a second that 30fps is anything other than an immersion killer vs higher frame rates. The slight of hand Ubisoft is using is by removing the the clear opportunities for gamers to achieve 60fps.

Sure 30fps is better than super choppy >30fps gameplay, but we aren't measuring 30fps vs that FFS. We are measuring 30fps vs solid 60fps or greater and leaving that up to the gamer, not to Ubisoft. Ubisoft is trying to control the narrative by omitting critical aspects of what PC gamers can and should achieve.

There is a case for 30fps gaming. Games like Nethack, Mystery House and Myst all come to mind.

The minute you start talking about games with fast- (or even medium-)paced animation, however, that case disappears real fast.

People... vote with your wallet. I have NEVER bought a single game from Ubisoft because of this crap, and I stopped buying from Atari a long time ago (when it was still alive), and I stopped buying from Activision because of their business practices, and I stopped buying from BioWare because of DA2 (not that DA1 was much better).

Those companies are for mainstream that don't care. As a general rule, people don't care, and those companies make games for people who don't care, because those companies don't care either.

So if you care, buy smart.

No wonder the indie scene is on the rise (much more than I ever expected, to be honest). They may come up with games that are just as buggy, but they are made by people who care, for people who care.

What a joke. 30fps is always worse, always. Higher the frame rate the better. Even on consoles is a game-changer. Try The Last of Us Remastered on PS4 with and without the 30fps frame cap. Huge difference.
