EFS Experts out there?

I had some encrypted files using EFS in XP Pro. I didn't back up. I reinstalled XP. I lost the files. I used data recovery to recover SOME EFS files (especially a folder called "RSA", which I think holds the private key)

I still have the encrypted files intact. Can I recover them using the private key and the knowledge of my password?

You will need to call Microsoft and ask them to use a tool called reccerts to recover the files. It sounds like you may have enough information to be able to recover.

Is the method used by the Microsoft tool "reccerts" the same as the method used by Elcomsoft's program? Elcomsoft's program could not find all the necessary files for decryption.

I doubt it. And if Stash says get reccerts, that is what you should do. Read his sig and fill in the blanks.

Do you know how much it costs?
