Pretty much your best bet is to read printer reviews from magazines like PCWorld or PC Magazine, as they specifically compare price per page usually. You're not likely to find many individual users who can give you real data on this, since most people only own one printer at a time, and only get a new printer that's several "generations" older than their previous one so comparisons are useless.

I have the brother 110c all in one I got for $75 works nice seperate color tanks and can use refills for generic ink. Print quality is pretty good and ink tanks are huge look up LC41 inkcarts on ebay. I can get 4 carts for about $10. The scanner is a bit slow but is ok. Bought it for the cheap ink so suits me perfectly and the printer is small in size. The 210c is the same printer with fax and it runs around $99. It does use a bit of ink each day to clean itself while not in use but with the ink being so cheap its worth it so the print head doesnt dry out. Ive had it for a couple months and still on original carts with some heavy printing.

also the 210c is $79.98 after $20 rebate

Canon's generally have pretty good ink catridge pricing. On the order of $11/13mL from Best Buy, cheaper on the internet, and much cheaper if you go generic.

buy a canon printer. They are of two companies with high quality home printers, the other being epson. Canon uses 1-2 picoliter droplets while epson uses 3 picoliter droplets, meaning canon is more efficient in ink. you can get a pixma series printer for under 130$. If you want cheap inks get the ip3000,ip4000. The new series ip3200, 4200 uses inks with a chip on them so you cant buy generic.

I buy my generic ink from bulkinkjetcarts.com i can buy 3 sets of inks for my canon around 25$.

 You can't go wrong with this even if you decide to go generic or better yet do your own refills. Depending on the size of refill bottles you buy you can end up paying less than a $1.00 each refill.
