Ever asked somebody married for 50 years how long they dated? A few months, very often. The WW generations married after very brief periods of knowing each other and they had long marriages, typically. Marriages can last if you choose to make them last - it's just that this generation figures bailing out is a perfectly excusable way to end a marriage.

What else would you expect from a society that places a premium on the abdication of personal responsibility?

Good job ignoring the fact that divorce wasn't socially acceptable until recently.

First of all, do not marry someone you've only been dating for 6 months. YOU WILL END UP APART OF THE DIVORCE RATE STATISTIC

met my wife in late june '94, started dating in aug/94, engaged in 9/94 and married in 5/95.

11 year anniversary in about 6 weeks.

Edit for correct decade 'cause I'm on crack!

I started dating my spouse in September 1993 and we got married in February 1994. Married over 12 years now. We only dated (well, lived together) for 5 months before the wedding (not the engagement, the wedding itself.) And no, we didn't have any kids until over 2 years later. It wasn't rushed due to a pregnancy. We don't all end up divorced if we date for 6 months or less before marriage.

When my wife and I got married, everyone told us to wait at least a yar to think about kids. It was good advice. Married May 20, '95 and oldest born March 30, '97. We've had 4 more since for a total of 5 kids and almost 11 years of marriage.

true, but on the other hand i dont really see it a personal responsibility for two people to stay in a marriage if they just dont want to anymore

I think you just repeated what I said - "it's just that this generation figures bailing out is a perfectly excusable way to end a marriage"

Some people used to think it was your personal responsibility, and along with that came the pressure to work things out (that worked, more often than not.)

:disgust:
Reading comprehension seems to be taking a hit also.
If you lower the bar far enough, you can justify anything. Then the word "responsibility" ceases to mean anything. The same goes for "vows" "honor" and "commitment".

That exchange would be funny, if it wasn't so sad & pathetic!

BTW, the OP is certainly short on updates.
