Drank a large cup of coffee earlier, downed a red bull, popped some caffeine pills, and probably gonna down another red bull before the night is over. Am I gonna die??? BTW, this is in the span of the last couple of hours, not all at once.

Caffeine-Induced Organic Mental Disorder 305.90 Caffeine Intoxication

Recent consumption of caffeine, usually in excess of 250 mg.
At least five of the following signs:

restlessness
nervousness
excitement
insomnia
flushed face
diuresis
gastrointestinal disturbance
muscle twitching
rambling flow of thought and speech
tachycardia or cardiac arrhythmia
periods of inexhaustibility
psychomotor agitation

Basically, overdosing on caffeine will probably be very very unpleasant but not kill or deliver permanent damage. However, People do die from it.

Toxic dose The LD_50 of caffeine (that is the lethal dosage reported to kill 50% of the population) is estimated at 10 grams for oral administration. As it is usually the case, lethal dosage varies from individual to individual according to weight. Ingestion of 150mg/kg of caffeine seems to be the LD_50 for all people. That is, people weighting 50 kilos have an LD_50 of approx. 7.5 grams, people weighting 80 kilos have an LD_50 of about 12 grams.

In cups of coffee the LD_50 varies from 50 to 200 cups of coffee or about 50 vivarins (200mg each).

One exceptional case documents survival after ingesting 24 grams. The minimum lethal dose ever reported was 3.2 grams intravenously , this does not represent the oral MLD (minimum lethal dose).

In small children ingestion of 35 mg/kg can lead to moderate toxicity. The amount of caffeine in an average cup of coffee is 50 - 200 mg. Infants metabolize caffeine very slowly.

Symptoms

Acute caffeine poisoning gives early symptoms of anorexia, tremor, and restlessness. Followed by nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, and confusion. Serious intoxication may cause delirium, seizures, supraventricular and ventricular tachyarrhythmias, hypokalemia, and hyperglycemia.
Chronic high-dose caffeine intake can lead to nervousness, irritability, anxiety, tremulousness, muscle twitching, insomnia, palpitations and hyperreflexia. For blood testing, cross-reaction with theophylline assays will detect toxic amounts. (Method IA) Blood concentration of 1-10 mg/L is normal in coffee drinkers, while 80 mg/L has been associated with death. Treatment
Emergency Measures

Maintain the airway and assist ventilation.
Treat seizures & hypotension if they occur.
Hypokalemia usually goes away by itself.
Monitor Vital Signs.
Specific drugs & antidotes

Beta blockers effectively reverse cardiotoxic effects mediated by excessive beta-adrenergic stimulation. Treat hypotension or tachyarrhythmias with intravenous propanolol, .01 - .02 mg/kg. , or esmolol, .05 mg/kg , carefully titrated with low doses. Esmolol is preferred because of its short half life and low cardioselectivity.
Decontamination

Induce vomiting or perform gastric lavage.
Administer activated charcoal and cathartic.
Gut emptying is probably not needed if 1 2 are performed promptly. Appendix A Performing airway assistance.
If no neck injury is suspected, place in the "Sniffing" position by tilting the head back and extending the front of the neck.
Apply the "Jaw Thrust" to move the tongue out of the way without flexing the neck: Place thumb fingers from both hands under the back of the jaw and thrust the jaw forward so that the chin sticks out. This should also hurt the patient, allowing you to judge depth of coma.
Tilt the head to the side to allow vomit and snot to drain

Caffeine highs make me feel like crap, too. I hate when I overdo it with Mountain Dew! You feel all shaky and jittery. Bad feeling, IMO. Drink some water to flush it out.

Effects of TOO much caffeine????

Doses ranging from 250 to 750 mg (2 to 7 cups of coffee or tablets of NoDoz) can produce restlessness, nausea, headache, tense muscles, sleep disturbances, and irregular heart beats.

Doses of over 750 mg (7 cups of coffee) can produce a reaction similar to an anxiety attack, including delirium, ringing ears, and light flashes.

When I was in high school (this was 15 year ago or so), one day I took about 6 Vivarins throughout the course of the day. (Yes, I was being stupid..) I ended up passing out in my Spanish class, was taken to the office, where they found two empty boxes of the stuff in my backpack. They (school admin) freaked out and called my mom, who took me to the hospital.

Once at the hospital, I recovered from the heart palpitations and the flushed feeling, and started getting somewhat hyper.. ended up talking to just about every other patient there in the waiting room.

Another time, I ate an entire box of NoDoz pretty much all at once. It had no effect whatsoever (making me think they were skimping on the actual caffeine dosage).

Ah, the stupid things we do in high school... At least I turned out ok *twitch*

Too much? For me, it can lead to chills, small muscle spasms, jittery-ness... extreme downs.

I don't touch the stuff too often, needless to say.

It doesn't take much common sense to know that something which is causing you to feel sick with a headache and nausea due to over-consumption is bad for you. There is a big difference between toxic and perfectly healthy too. I can drink 6 beer a night for the next 20 years and not die on any given night but my liver will be in a state of disarray.

The amount you described in your first post is too much caffeine. Why are you popping caffeine pills? You shouldn't even have those...

Um, I think the question should be, why did you do this in the first place? Are you stupid, or are you mearly trying to give the impression that you are stupid? That's like someone drinking a 12pack of beer then saying, 'I'm planing on having another 12 before I go to bed. Am I gonna Die?' Perhaps you will identify with the people on this web site...Darwin Awards.
