I just filled out the FAFSA for this year, and my EFC was much higher than I expected at 10,800. A buddy of mine that made roughly the same amount of money as I did received an EFC of 0, and was therefore eligible for a Pell Grant. Does having young children change my eligibility? He has a 4 year old and a newborn. We're roughly the same age (28 and 30) and obviously neither of us are dependents.

Thoughts?
