tiger attack

edit: apparently the footage is from Corbett National Park in india.

some comments from another website:

"This happened in Assam, India. The elephant saved the guys on them. She was trained to defend against tiger. When tiger attacked and fell back to the ground, the elephant put her foot on tiger's neck just enough to stop him from attacking. Then the tiger was captured. No one was hurt.

Btw Tigress was angry because two of her cubs were missing since two days."

"Anyways, I remember seeing this clip a few months ago, and someone from that area of India spoke up in the comments. He said the government pays these guys on elephants to go into the surrounding areas of villages and fish out these female tigers that eat livestock, attack humans, etc. They usually never attack the men on the elephants because they know the elephants will kill them.

So with this particular clip, the tiger dragged the guy off of the elephant, then the female elephant crushed the tiger and saved the mans life - I believe he had to have his leg amputated though."

Probably the same way any animal feels when it suddenly comes to the horrific realization that it's not at the top of the food chain.

Awesome hunters. You never even saw him coming. He was just moving in that brush stalking the whole time.

As for leaps - cats can jump tremendous distances. Had a house cat that could jump to the top of the refridgerator.

That's either a very brave or a very desperate tiger. Taking a run at a guy on an elephant is odd.

it most certainly is odd. most probably it was very very hungry.

also it looks like this happened in india where tigers have become less fearful of humans due to frequent encounters. there are many man-eaters as well.

Man tigers have no fear. Even lions would avoid confrontation with elephants. are those Asian elephants that are smaller than African elephants?

Maybe not that odd. I click on another link there, there was another tiger stalking 3 guys riding on an elephant. It was from a documentary, and they got away though. From the videos those looks to be the smaller Asian elephants though.

African elephants are pretty aggressive. I doubt many people can ride them.

And it worked.

not really. and actually he THREW the stick at the tiger just before it leapt and missed but it didn't deter him one bit. the tiger just wasn't able to jump that high.

He was holding 2 sticks.

I think the tiger could have easily jumped that high if it wanted to. And it wouldn't have missed if it was really trying to hit the guy.

I've seen videos of tigers jumping up onto tree branches, and they have good coordination with their paws. I just can't see it missing that easily. I think the tiger was just pissed that someone entered its territory and wanted to scare them away.
