EE Students...

I KNOW there are a lot of EE students that frequent these forums, and I want their opinions and advice. I am currently a junior in high school, and I really aspire to become an EE student. I enjoy math and am taking AP Calc AB (next year BC), so I know where I want to go. My brother goes to Stanford and he is a Chem Engin. major. I know all this engineering is hard, but I REALLY want to succeed. Any advice at all would be appreciated. I just want to talk about my future.

Times must have really changed. A junior in high school should be thinking about girls, sex, his education, cars, overclocked computers, his education, girls, sex, cars, computers, sports and then maybe his education.

Top schools are looking for a person that's more than a social retard with a 1600 SAT/170 IQ. Do well in school, but have a life. Join clubs, show some non-acedemic achievement, get into leadership positions, unpaid internships, ect. Find an EE that's fairly open and pick his brain about stuff.

Just curious pterG, how old are ya? Relax a little, enjoy life a little at this age. Don't go through high school concerned only with whats next, but have some fun too. Seriously, you will NOT regret it.

i agree, i don't think it's too helpful or advantageous to think about that stuff in high school, just do the best you can...

there's really no way of explaining what it's like to be an EE major, it's just something you'll have to try for yourself... and chances are that it'll be much different from what you expected

I recently graduated with a Computer Engineering Degree, Very similar to EE. For the most part I don't like giving advice... but ....

What people are saying here is pretty good.. listen too them... ask lots of OBJECTIVE questions...

Most importantly... Don't take anything we say for truth (Am I contradicting myself?? )... form your own opinion.

pterG: Well I was originally a computer science major and switched to mechanical engineering. I think it's the best desicision I have ever made because it's alot more interesting to me.

So my advice to you is to find the engineering field that you are most instrested in. Since colleges make you take so many differnent engineering courses that deal with chemistry, circuits and physics, etc, you can see which one most interests you.

For example, your brother is a chemical engineer, so...take a look at his courses, and ask him some questions and see if you are interested.

For my college atleast, ALL engineering students are required to take a basic electrical circuits class. For some other colleges, electrical circuits are covered in physics classes. Either way, iwhen you take those courses, ask yourself if you are really interested in it. If you are, then go for an EE degree.

you in junior high and already thinking about EE? well, if you like math and advance engineering math then go ahead with EE. You are going to play with some circuitry and computer logic, but mostly you will need to solve equation like fourier. I used to be EE then transfered to business school ... I'm not good with math.
