Educate me on car audio, help with upgrades

is your power wire to the amp running in the same area as your RCA's? I try to run power on the opposite side of the car than the RCA's specifically for this issue alone.

What kind of filter should I get to clear engine/alternator whine coming through the speakers? Pitch/intensity varies with RPM so that's definitely the source.
