How many of you use this program and have success with it?

I am just trying it out and anything I try to download won't download any faster than lik 6 K/s? Is there something I need to do to speed it up or make it go faster?

I used it for one set of hard to find files, after that, I put it away forever. It did locate a ton of sources that all the other standard apps missed, and did download pretty quickly, but it's still ugly and cumbersome.

I use it but it's really really slow. It's one of the best programs for huge files and rare software if you know how to look for it, but I would never use to download audio

I agree. Edonkey is ugly and cumbersome, and sometimes it's hard to log into a server. (We're not even talking about Overnet here; I've never gotten that to work properly.) Upload and download speeds do not really make any sense, and there's no provision for manually adjusting this. Often I had people downloading from me at maybe 5K/sec, when I have approx 1Mbps of upstream bandwidth. Documentation for edonkey is frustratingly incomplete, and is no help. There's an active user community, but help and resources are haphazard.

The good thing I've noticed about edonkey is that once you're connected and start downloading a file, you'll usually get that file eventually.

Edonkey is very sweet. It has a high learning curve, not just click click search download. Best way to use it is to combine it with a file listing site like sharereactor.com or filenexus.com. I've gotten up to 150k/sec with edonkey. Best P2P for movies, games, anime, etc. there is.

Neomits go and read the forums at edonkey2000.com. There are countless threads on how to improve your speeds, firewall settings, etc.

I usually move back and forth between 30k/sec - 150k/sec

I love edonkey. It's the best file sharing program in my mind for just about everything except music. If you load it up and just try to search for something you won't get anywhere. You have to give it a few days to get on some servers. The search function I find is all but useless, so you have to use sites that diskop listed above.

How come Kazaa has been running slow the passed few months? It used to be fast...I used to average about 30K, now I am lucky to have above 1k

I have had great success with E-donkey. However, I am used to setting up several downloads and letting them cook overnight, or for a few days. It does take some tweaking; there was a registry hack posted on teh sharereactor forum some months ago that tripled my download speeds. I am unsure as to whether it was a generic windows speed improvement, or whether it was geared to edonkey, but it worked.

I haven't found speed to be a significant problem, given that downloads can re-start where they left off. Them's the breaks. If it does not suit you, there are programs out there.
