.... you might want to check out some memory tutorials .. edo is quite quite old .. around like 60ns , as opposed to SDRAM which is 8-7ns and less .. cheap edo, try ebay, retailers will burn u up on edo .. u can buy a new mobo and ram for what u pay for edo memory .. .. you may have to dust off the edo as well ..
good luck ..

SDRAM by far. I remember back when overclocking the FSB to 83MHz required a "highend" SDRAM stick with its "ultra fast" 12ns timing. DRAM (EDO & FPM) was good with its 70/60ns timing up to 66MHz, but SDRAM took over after the introduction of the 100MHz FSB. The only place I'd know for sure having reliable EDO DRAM sticks is Crucial (who is incidentally one of the if not the best SDRAM manufacturer). Hopefully someone else knows of something just as good for cheaper though, as EDO is not being made anymore IIRC.

Computer Memory 101! ;) Yeah, a memory tutorial is in order isn't it?

Believe it or not, some people have old computers which still use it! We have some "transitional" computers here where I work which were obviously being manufactured when SDRAM was starting to become popular. Those PCs are in the Pentium 2 - 233-300 mhz range and the motherboards have slots for both 72 pin SIMMs (EDO and Fast Page) and 168 pin SDRAMs. When it came time to add memory to a number of those computers (we have around 10 or so) I found they had all 4 slots filled ,totalling 64 mb. Since we had a bunch of 128 mb sticks of PC133 SDRAM in my drawer, I removed all the SIMMs and stuck in one of those DIMMs. The refresh rate is an order of magnitude higher - 7.5 ns vs around 70 ns. I told the users they ought to see applications run a little faster now with more and faster memory.

Anyway, the long and short of it is that some people out there may have older machines laying around which are like the ones I mentioned above, and may have the choice to use either type of memory. Many non-techies don't know better, but if they have an old PC which could be "upgraded" by replacing the SIMMs with SDRAM. Then it is something they should do. Get to it!

<< SDRAM canes EDO RAM in everyway. EDO/FPM is a generation behind. >>

SDRAM is better if your motherboard will support it. Like everyone said already, if your mobo doesn't support SDRAM you may be better off upgrading to a new mobo that at the very least supports SDRAM, but it all depends on what you're willing to spend and what your plans are for this computer.

As for buying EDO, you are not likely going to get it cheaply from any vendors and my suggestion is that if you need to purchase it to go the route of online auctions or something along those lines and try to get some used memory, because it's going to be a hell of a lot cheaper that way.
