EDO Memory problems

I have and only Gateway computer a P2 233... it has 32mb of EDO Ram in it... on the web page it says it will support up to 256mb of edo ram.
So i bought 4 64mb simm's i came back and installed them and when the bios screen came up it said i only had 64mb of ram. I was a little frusated so i tried it with the to 16mb simms and 2 64mb simms and when the bios came up it said 128mb of ram. I would leave it at that but it is really unstable... any suggestions...
Thanks

Have you updated to the latest BIOS on Gateway's website? I would do that first if you have not already. If so, then I would try just 2 64MB sticks at a time. You may have a bad stick of ram in there which is causing your problems. Which, if one stick is bad it can cause some wierd things to happen since EDO has be installed in pairs.
